lets just say hypothetically(sp?) someone had already taken their pants off, and hypothetically their wife needed something open. And hypothetically (ok I'll stop that) a boker germany straight shaving razor was the closest sharp (an understatement) was the closest blade and he inadvertantly buried it 3/4 of the blade deep and 100% of it long into his palm. He then decided to stitch it. He soaked thread in alcohol and burned a needle, then cleaned the wound with peroxide. He put 5 stitches and then applyied neosporine and bandaging. It sealed overnight and all seems well. Hypothetically, obviously, and for survival emergency situations, what should this moron have done differently?

dude i dont even know where to start on this one....... if it even looks red get to the ER please do it for me!! bad idea all around, infection , so sterial field, cotton thread all very bad. sewing your self up is emergency type stuff only good luck at the very least you need a tetnus booster and some oral antibiotics,
good luck man

What you SHOULD do is go to you family doctor, or ER. Make sure nothings infected. Chances are they cut you open and do it right, hate to say it man, unless your an EMT or something, just get the bleeding stopped and then get it professionally stiched, but go anyways to make sure.

LOL, I know what I er I mean what my friend should do. If there's any sign of a problem I'll go to the doc. I swear. It has sealed up very well and the stitches will come on out and glue will work now.

The other thing is did you use, like sewing thread? becuase if you did you going to have a hell of a time getting it out if its sealed up.

it came out. just removed it and glued. it was closed up good enough now that some TLC and glue will work.

I had some fishing line but it didn't occur to me to use that.

seriously though, what would you do if it WAS an emergency situation

Close to the same thing, but I would have been making a quick trip to the hospital, And I doubt I would have stiched it up, unless I had no other choice. But, you made your choices and make it ok, so whats to worry? :D

Well yeah, but this is the survival skills section, and I'm truely curious as to what would be the best in a bad situation.

I'm not worried about my hand. If something gets bad I'll go to the pirates I mean doctor.

so lets be serious for a moment, no more rambo sterilize the wound with gunpowder stuff, first the hand is not something that you mess with, burying a razor in your hand means that someone that knows something about hands needs to look at the wound, second alcohol may not sterilize your thread, so you might be putting bacteria in a warm moist dark place-- they like to grow in that environment. third a hand infection can seriously cripple you permanently- not a good trade off for not bothering to go to the emergency room. fourth because you get away with it once does not mean that you should either do it again or encourage others to do this like russian roulette it always catches up to you in the end.

Its sounds as if you did a fair job, watch fir infection, and be sure to get to the doc if infection sets in.

I wouldn't suggest much of anything I pull to other people.

With no pants on your lucky you didn't circumcise yourself with the razor.Lol
Seriously though, good luck with your wound. Hope it heals. Might be wise to
see a doc.

Even if I'm not sure if something looks bad, I'll go to the EMS base and let someone else give me their opinion.

Don't use cotton thread next time. If it's not contaminated already (because the alcohol didn't kill everything), it will wick nasty bugs deep inside where they LOVE to grow and get into your blood. Keep it covered and clean. If it goes red, RUN to the hospital before they have to take your hand.
