I have a question about stitching. I'm making a black sheath, with white stitching. Using a synthetic sinew. By the time I finished stitching, you couldn't tell it was white. I've had this piece of leather for a couple years, so it's not a case of wet dye. What did I do wrong?

Clean everything before starting , include everything working surface , hands etc not just the sheath . Most of the dirty look I've found comes from your hands . I will even wash my hands a couple of times while stitching a sheath .

I was crazy about trying to keep this stitching white , and this is still not absolutely perfect .

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll be sure to keep my hands clean next time, but I don't think it was my hands that caused it. I had plenty of thread, so I really only touched the end. Unless it was from touching it once it was tthreaded through. Right from the start, I could see the thread was darkening after it went in.
I drilled the holes. Could that cause a problem? Should I let it set for a day after drilling?

Did you glue the join before stitching ?
If so how long before you stitched it ?

I just used white nylon thread for the first time and to be honest i dont like it. Its to white. So i just ordered like 287 yards from the bay of a natural sinew color i think they called it. I think I will like that color better and it shouldnt show every little bit discoloration.

The piece I just did with white thread discolored on my back stitching badly and i used no glue at all except for the felt lining and that was just spray upholstery adhesive.

I like white sticthing , but it does not stay white for long :)
Here is a sheath I made recently for a friend , I can assure you it was white when I gave it to him , but after a couple of weeks of wearing it at work it has already got a grubby look to it .
This thread reminded to have a look at it so I got him to take it off when I saw him , and just photographed it on the ground out in the paddock . He couldn't care less if it gets dirty , it's a working tool anyway .
This is for a Skeletool .
