I'm thinking of modding the stock scales on my en route 5. Was hoping you guys with modded stock handles might show pics. Undecided between stippling and filing some groves.
Also what material would a fella use to add a bit of color in the way of liners?

Thanks in advance :)

Yeah lots of ideas in that thread. Liners can be made from lots of materials - DVD/XBox/PS cases, dollar store cutting boards, plastic containers. I'm partial to stippling myself.

Green Xbox liners and some partial stippling:

Orange liners cut from a plastic tote:

If you do decide to stipple it I'd recommend doing it lightly.
I've seen aggressive stippling lead to bloody hands.
Personally I like the stock Grivory scales.
They might "feel" slippery to the touch, but they're really not.

This. The Grivory is not as slick as people assert. It's no more slick than polished wood or micarta.

One only has to look at (and hold and swing) a fawn's foot (axe style), wood handled framing hammer. Smooth surface that stays in your hand because of the grip's design.....not because of the surface treatment (or lack thereof). Ethan has designed a superlatively shaped set of scales for his eponymous big knives, IMO. I'd recommend using them first and then deciding what, if anything, you'll do as far as mods. My 2¢.

Just throw some stainless hardware and a Ranger band on those factory grips. Then, you're GTG!

This is a pretty effective one to increase, uhhh..... traction.

It can if you don't watch it. I have some with surface rust but it's no big deal. If you strip the coating under the handle it may become an issue but I constantly oil everything which isn't a hassle to me ymmv.

Yeah, I don't mess around with the stock hardware.
It rusts very quickly here in SW Washington.
Stainless all the way!
Plus it looks cool. :D
