I am just wondering if a Birdseye rivet is any weaker or develop more play than a typical knife with a bolster? Any info on these knives would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

If the knife is used properly there is no difference. Many custom knife makers use them on different "Shadow" patterns. They are and have been used on production knives for years.
