Have you guys seen the stockman knives they sell at Home Depot? It's a Sheffeild, I believe, and it's only like 9 dollars. It's a simple wood handled, stainless steel medium stockman with no shield and Sheffield etched into the clip point blade. I've seen them, a friend had one, and it seemed pretty good. Fit and finish was ok. Not like a high end knife, but not bad, specially for the price. Sharpness was good too. Anyone have one, or seen one, or have an opinion of them? I mean, can't ask for much at 9 dollars, but what do you guys think?

save your $9 for the flea market and buy a used schrade, case, german boker, ect ect. just my .02

I think the "you get what you pay for" has to be a adjusted a bit in some cases. Before (the real) Schrade went down the tubes, you could get a model 8OT large stockman for cheap. It's one of the best stockman ever and I think superior as a cutting tool to many knives that cost 5-10 times as much.

Of course, they cost a little more nowadays. ;)

The particular ones you are asking about are not good, I tried one on sale for $6 and the steel is horrible. Could not get an edge on it at all.

Get a Buck 303 for something similar sized but functional. If you are buying just get something from China, the Buck 373 costs a bit less.

last count I had around 200 stockmans been collecting then specifically for a while.
The best bang for the buck Stockman I have yet come across is Sears Craftsman stockman Around $19.00 this one walks and talks comparable to knives costing three times as much. fit and finish are outstanding.brass liners and bolsters wood scales. factory edge was OK. after a minuet with a hard Arkansas and strop I had a hair popping edge that seams to be holding up very well.

Agreed Rhino. I have 4 8OT's. The last one I bought was for 15.50 last week. New but about 10 years old. Best deal I've found in a while.

Ebay item 160082932492

Bikermike-I carried a Craftsman medium stock knife for a while too, great value. Sears seems to have stopped carrying them though (not sure if Camillus is still making them anymore).
