That's horrible, I'm very sorry to hear that. I hope the police find the people responsible and you can get at least some of them back.🙏

Care to share any details of the theft? Like how, where, and any possible suspects?

Ones chances of recovering stolen property can vary depending on the circumstances. For example- there's a big difference between a roommate stealing stuff from your room, or a total stranger breaking your car window and grabbing whatever is there.

Or the difference between an angry ex taking your stuff just to hurt you, or a burglar breaking into your house and stealing anything of value.

Or the difference between a sticky-fingered "friend" whom you trust and allow into your home versus a random party guest with sticky fingers who mingles in with the crowd.

Some thefts are easier to solve than others. And some thieves are easier to recover property from than others.

Have you notified the police and filed a report?

Whatever the case may be, I hope you get your knives back. I really hate thieves.

I believe it was a sticky fingered friend as nobody else has been in the house, nothing else is missing that we are aware of, I will be reporting it soon as I was trying to give the person a chance to return them being g nice that if they do they won't be procured however my patience for being nice is quickly evaporating

I hate to hear the sad news of your loss. I hope that you get your knives back. I decided not to say what I hope the thief gets between his eyes.

There's not a whole lot of details here for a theft of that magnitude. Your first step should be to contact the police.

I used to live in Alameda. Good luck getting your collection back!

Sorry for your loss. 400 knives at 5oz per would be 125lb and bulky with all the package/storage, not easy for a sticky finger to sneak out of your house. Could be a team work or multiple trips by a single person.

I wouldn’t wait too long before reporting it to the police, and insurance. Try to have any documentation, photos, etc available to help facilitate things. Good luck.

Fixed that for you. Go to the cops, not the internet.

Go to the police ASAP! Not the internet. Even if the thief saw your post and appreciated the chance to do the right thing, they would probably be embarrassed or scared to admit it. Anyway, if someone steals that much stuff, they are NEVER giving it back. They thought that through while doing it, they made their choice already.
I hope you figure it all out. That sucks. :(

OP: Sorry 4 your loss. :(

insured?

Should be covered at least partially under a homeowner's or renter's policy even if the knives were not itemized in a personal articles rider. Contact your insurance agent (if any) to determine coverage (if any).

FWIW, this is why I keep all of my receipts and maintain a log and inventory of every knife I ever bought or sold. This is also necessary now if you get a 1099 for PP G&S, EB or other "business sales over $600.

It's also why I have been posting pics of every new (to me) knife I have bought for the last yr or so on this site.

It's NOT just to brag or for an ego boost, it's also to provide proof of the purchase mainly for my insurance company and possibly for the police if necessary. This data is obvioulsy important for both a police report and insurance claim.

FWIW, I agree that you should have already called the police to investigate the burglary. Any delay makes discovering any useable evidence, like fingerprints at the POE or elsewhere in the house, difficult if not impossible.

Of course, chances of recovery are slim with something like knives that are so easily fungible but maybe you'll get lucky.

Hope you are.
