Hello everyone,

Please check out the Center Cross Knifemaker's site. Go to this URL:
http://www.centercross.com/BobSky/stolen.htm

No spaces. When you read this, I hope you get as mad as I am. Gene Osborne could be the most decent man there is, in any profession. His life is dedicate to God first, his family second, and making the best knives possible third. I could easily write several pages telling you nice a person he is, and several more telling you about his wife, Pat, and his LARGE family, which goes from college aged to diaper aged (no doubt Pat has an express ticket straight to Heaven).

I know our world could be better, but I didn’t need this demonstrated to me using Gene as an example. I guess if you want to make an example you use someone who will have the most effect of people.

One of he knives stolen has a small connection to me. I was lucky enough to come into some unfinished Bob_Sky blades. I gave them to Gene, who finished them to a level of quality that would please Bob Hajovsky very much. I kept one, Gene was going to keep another, and the third was to be donated for an auction to start a scholarship in Bob’s name. There were a few of Bob’s knives being auctioned for this purpose. The one for this auction finished by Gene was a chute knife. You can see it on the site shown about. It was stolen, so Gene gave the auction the knife he was going to keep.

This is a serious event. A maker like Gene, and so many like him we all are fans of, can’t afford to have so many knives leave his shop without him getting paid for them. To loose a maker like Gene because he now has to come up with a way to replace the lost income of a thousand hours of work will hurt us all. There are too few makers as good as Gene Osborne.

If any collectors out there are looking for a knife to buy with some money burning a hole in their pocket, take a look at Gene’s web site. Don’t buy a knife from him out of sympathy or pity, but because you want the very best made knife available for your money. That is exactly what you will get.

I post this without checking with Gene and Pat. I hope they don’t get to mad at me. They have both done a lot for me and I want to do whatever I can to help them.

Oh yes, one other thing – the knives stolen are pictured on Gene’s site. The quality of them is hard to believe – absolutely fantastic. They easily rate with the best by any maker in the world. They tend to stand out when sitting on a table or thrown in with other, lesser knives. They have three small crosses on the blade, the center being a little bigger than the other two (guess why). If you see one let someone know about it. It would be nice to catch the thieves who did this. I know the odds of this aren’t great, but you never know.

Some people make me sick. The person who did this is nothing but a lowlife. The type of person that would do something like this to such a good and decent man is nothing but the lowest form of scum.

bu then again, what do i know???

Gene certainly is one good person and it is obvious that his customer had a lot of trust in him.

I am sure there are more than a few of us who will keep their eyes open.

Whenever I hear of knives being taken it grates pretty hard since it is hard to understand how someone could enjoy owning them.

Thanks for the heads up OHC.

I live near CenterCross and have been in contact with Pat about this. I've looked in Pawn Shops here in the DFW area (specifically Arlington) and haven't found anything. Pat was very gracious and offered me a tour of the shop, which I intend to take her up on. They seem like very nice people to me, and yes this ticks me off.

I saw this posted several months ago and have been watching ebay since. I have the photos on my desktop and when I see anything on ebay that looks close I check it against the photos. Haven't seen anything, and have slowed down my search. Thanks for re-charging me. I'll look more often.

Sad story- Very unfortunate.
Doom on the scumbag(s) who did this.
Let's keep our eyes open- perhaps we can prevent this from happening again.
Thanks OHC & Best of luck to Gene & Family.

What also sucks about this is that what if the person who stole this knife uses it to commit a crime (ie robbery, kidnapping, killing) then it tarnishes the name of the maker, "Gene Osborne knife used in killing today...". Whoever stole the knife will be caught and his @$$ will be kicked all over the world, kicked by boots with knives sticking out of it. It really pisses me off that someone has to steal other peoples belongings and not feel a thing about it, I hope that they cut several fingers off with it while trying to sell it or show it around. where's my medication.

I certainly hope and pray that the people responsible are caught. I do not know how someone can sleep at night preying on others. I have written gene back and forth several times on this very subject. Even though i have not persnally met the man ( and ihope i have the chance one day) he seems like a extremly decent person. He took the time to explain in detail his business and that meant a lot to me. I plan on purchasing one of his fine knives in the near future.

I'm a little bothered by BaliSongMan wanting to hurt the thief. Please go here:
http://www.customknifedirectory.com/cgi-bin/UltraBoard/UltraBoard.cgi?action=Read&BID=20&TID=66

And see what it's like not to have fingers. I don't wish that on anyone, not having finger myself.
My wish would be, to catch the thief and have him/her work for Gene for a year to not only pay Gene back, but to learn what it's like to be a good person. Working next to Gene, and seeing his great family, would make the thief a good, honest member of society.

We have enough trouble, let's not cut any more fingers off.
