Stolen Knives - Reward

EDW11, well that really sucks, I'm sorry it happened. I hope you won't think it insensitive of me to ask a question at this difficult time that may help others who on occassion ship valuable knives. Was there some way the driver knew what was in the package or was it just that it was insured for a large amount so that he knew he had something valuable? The most valuable package of knives I've ever shipped was only about $500 so you are way out of my league here. I've had good luck with USPS priority mail both sending and receiving and IIRC the package just says insured with no amount indicated but then again I've never insured anything in the 5 figure category. I sure hope you get your knives back!

Wow! By saying that it was stolen by a Fed Ex Driver, do you mean that he stole them out of the shipment? I've actually never heard of that. Fed Ex's tracking system is so detailed that they pretty much know exactly which employees touched a package and exactly what time and where it happened. If the package was loaded onto his truck, there'd be a scan. If he didn't have a scan and signature showing it delivered, I would think that he'd be in trouble.

Gents,

Don't get too excited this may be yet another Troll.

Let's wait until we get some better details on what happened, where, and with which knives.

It a minor tragedy for all of us to lose a couple of art treasures like these. I hope you have contacted the Federal Express and your local police department to file you reports. The police should be able to get the word out to pawn shops and others dealing in second hand goods.

Please keep us posted on this and on whether FedEx is actively cooperating to resolve the problem.

edw11 is a good friend and client of mine. why would anyone initially think this was a troll? i think many here have trolls on the brain:(

I have to admit that my initial reaction was inline with One2GoFast, but since Keith (with his 5,000+ posts) has, as the Mob would say, "spoked for him"... maybe it wasn't the Mob who said that... coulda been the Amish.. doesn't matter....
Since Keith is backing Ed up, the post has enough credibility for me. Therefourandfive, I'm moving this to General so it'll get more exposure.
(Super Mods, maybe it belongs in an additional forum as well, but my brain is much to diseased to be able to determine exactly which one.. at least until we have a STOLEN BY FED-EX LAKE KNIVES FORUM.... but if that's the case, I won't be insulted if you copy the thread there as well.)

Off ya go, little post!

Tim, no offense meant, but maybe the fact that he made his first post the one to start this thread?

Sounds like somebody is going to get nailed for this one. I sure hope you get those knives back. It pisses me off to simply read about stuff like this. I can't even imagine how angry I would get if it happened to me.

Satin Vector,
If you have to ask, you would be shocked. I don't know what one of those is worth, and I am already shocked.

It seems that it is likely the Fed Ex guy, if you have any evidence, talk to his boss or drop by his place after work.

In an email sent to me edw11 stated that there was pretty strong evidence that it was the Fed-Ex driver.

I don't know edw11 personally, but he has posted this information in all the knife forums that I have been to recently. I replied to the one he posted on the Knifemakes Guild Forum that pictures would help and asked him how he knew it was the Fed-Ex driver. He emailed me back with the pictures and a short explanation.

I'm very sorry for your loss. I sure hope that they catch the SOB that took them.
Matt

If you can get on the phone with a Fedex 'area manager' you will be talking with the right person...and you may get results!

Also, many of us here go to knife shows...for example, my wife and I hit almost all the shows on the west coast, looking specifically for Horn and Lake folders...

So, if there is any way that you can post pictures of the knives here, and we'll help you if need be, then we'll download them and take them to the shows with us.

We'll be on the lookout, and pass the images on to other collectors, and to the purveyors too.

There isn't a large market for Lake's, and if they surface, they should be pretty easy to spot...provided you have pictures, or if Ron can supply pictures.

BOL, and sorry to hear about your loss...that majorly sucks!

Mel

p.s. email with specific information about yourself and your interest in said knives...the more information I have, the more believable your story will be to me, and as such, the more effort I'll put into this. Sorry, twice burned.
