Well, maybe it was bound to happen. Though I live in what I thought was a nice neighborhood, a package was apperently taken off my porch, on a Saturday no less. It contained a custom small classic Seb(picture below). I'm hoping it will turn up on ebay or something and one of the forumates might catch it. My guess is who has it doesn't know the value. Unless he/she can read(which I doubt), and then the amount should be printed on the invoice that's with the package itself.
This was delivered by USPS and left by my mailbox UNSIGNED for. It required a signature which my postman didn't get from me. He knows me and maybe figured on a Saturday and all, that it would be fine. Either way, for now I'm out $660 or a really nice Sebenza. I'm giving it a week and then I'll start calling pawn shops in the area. THIS SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think you give up so quickly. Your options might including suing the seller (a "friendly" lawsuit in which he cross-claims against the USPS), or working your way up the USPS food chain to some kind of ombudsman or regional guy if there is such a thing. The duty of the USPS really seems to be to the sender and not you, so someone smarter than me might say that you wouldnt prevail against the USPS. They may have some kind of sovereign immunity too.

I'd stop payment or reverse the cc charges against the seller, and let him worry about it.

We'll be watching on ebay.

This isn't legal advice. :)

cheers

Sorry to hear about that; will keep an eye out also.

powernoodle - what did the merchant do wrong that they should have a charge reversed against them?

I agree with you, it sounds like a USPS thing, if it was supposed to be signed for, then the postman should not have left it there.

Thanks for the kind replys guys. I wouldn't ever think of suing the dealer I got it from, no need too, and he is a great guy. This is just the beginning stages of this thing. A couple of factors. It's the US post office's responsibility. The postman left the insured package without a signature, which was required. So the postal service will have to eat the cost. The company which sent me the package will have to(in my eyes) reimburse me the $660 for the knife, only because they took the insurance out on the package. They are the real victim here. I just never recieved the knife I ordered. Why, is not my problem. That's between the post office and the knife dealer, which they will have to collect later.
I just figured that I would try and help by calling around to pawnshops(which BTW I started this afternoon). And also fileing a report with the local police department. Not that I ever expect to see the knife, just...well, you never know.
:(

That stinks on ice!! I am so sorry!! I hope you get your gorgeous Sebbie back.

You're right.

But if buyer doesn't pay seller, then seller can say "where's the signature?" and seek redress from USPS.

I'm grasping at straws here. What it boils down to is that USPS screwed up by failing to get a signature, so they - rather than the buyer - should suffer.

peace

It might show up yet. We had a passaround arrive a week after it was "delivered". Supposedly the carrier kept "forgetting" to deliver it.

Chances are, a person with no knife knowledge got a hold of that knife. I just hope you get your money back from USPS.

That sure is a purdy Sebbie !

Blackend. . . .are you offering a reward ?

Yeah. I'll send the finder the knife for a week to play with...
:D
Actually talked with the dealer who sent it and an investigation is underway. Apparently this postman who left it is responsible and he will have to pay for it. Sorry it's that way, but what can I do? I'm getting reimbursed the full amount from the dealer while they collect from the US postal service.

Wow. That is really something. It sucks that you didn't get the Sebbie you wanted.

It really sickens me. The thought that not only will it fall into the hands of a theif, but that in addition the person wont know the true (artistic) value of what he has. A damascuc sebenza reduced to a shank.:barf: :barf: :barf: :barf: :barf: :barf: :barf: :barf: :barf:
