Earlier this fall I was surfing through tutorials and stumbled accross one on how to make a Fixed blade that looks like stone. (I think it was finally mounted on a deer bone) I made a mental note as to where it was but I find I am losing my notes the older I get :grumpy:
After weeks of looking I am hoping one of y'all remember seeing it?!?
Thanks

Very cool -- I was just thinking about doing a "flint-knapped" blade and was debating about how to keep the edge straight.

Reminds me of the blades Bill Cheatham made decades ago. He was the first I ever saw do this.

You are showing not only your age, but how long you've been paying attention to customs, Howie! ;)

I'm with ya! I think I first saw them at a Guild show in the mid-80's. I am grateful for the fact I can still remember stuff like that, even if I can't remember what I had for dinner. :D

Cool that knives become a lifelong interest for so many.

My first "Flint" knife was made from mild steel and done on a bench grinder. I used the edge of the wheel to make the "knapping" marks. It was part of my OA regalia back in the 60's. The same technique works for good steel, too. Profile the blade and grind in a little of the bevel. make gouge like cuts to lower the metal to make an edge. The final edge will be like a serrated knife. It is surprisingly sharp. I used a round chainsaw grinding stone (dremel tool)to do the final sharpening after HT. The gray color comes from a short soak in FC.You can also blue the blade for an obsidian look.I like the FC look better.
