Stone cutting blade question

Hi Folks.

I have almost no knowledge of blades or blades that cut stone with machines. I have a question that maybe one of you can answer.

In the pic below, you see a cut made in a granite block that is about 5 feet thick. This particular cut is about 30 inches deep.

Looking at the cut, you can see that the front of the saw blade was thinner than the sides. The cut is about 12 inches long.

1) What would the shape of such a blade be to make such a cut where the top of the cut is much thinner than the back of the cut?
2) Can you give me an estimate of the RPM of the blade that made such a cut?
3) Please feel free to share any and all ideas/ thoughts you have about this cut.

The link to the pic is below. Sorry for the grainy picture.

Any and all replies are welcome!

That picture isn’t much help, however based on your description it sounds like the cut was made with an industrial mining blade of some type.

The only granite mining blades that popped up on a Google image search are large circular saws which would make normal straight cuts.

I can’t think of a blade design or action that would make the cut you described unless it was two separate cuts that made the wedge shape.

Why do you want to know? Got a granite project coming up?

Ty for the reply. It means a lot. That granite block was found in Egypt. ( There are a lot of other blocks like that which were found). They are around 5000 - 10,000 years old.

I was trying to find out as much about the cut etc from 'today's' perspective. Ty

p.s. More pics of the same block of granite below. The cut in the first post is towards the top of both pics below. ty

Well, I don't know about 5,000 to 10,000 years ago, but here in the modern world there are diamond coated masonry blades with convex cutting edges that can produce a wedge-shaped cut. I don't know what they were using in ancient Egypt.

Don't be surprised if this thread gets moved since it isn't knife related.

Welcome to Bladeforums.
