I bought these two stones at a flee market today and I was looking for any information I could find on them.
The long one is 1.5 x 7 and I think it is a black Arkansas stone
The shorter one is 2 x 5.25ish and I know nothing beyond that and the information written on the stone

The Franz Swaty is a good quality razor hone. Perhaps 1800- 2000 grit a ceramic. The other could be a black hard Arkansas. (about 1100 grit) a natural. They have been abused. By leveling you can make them useful again. You could use a combination Norton crystalline stone to level them. With water start with the coarse side. Try to reclaim the mud this produces. When near level finish off on the fine side. It depends on how deep those scratches are, it could take 1-2 hours of rubbing on them. Good luck, DM

Hard to tell from the pictures, but I would have guessed the black one is slate, maybe a Thuringian.

The other is a so-called "3-line" Swaty - I've been trying to find one of those for some experiments.

I'll definitely level the national one for use in the future. The swaty was a freebie I managed to talk into the deal do to the work the national stone needed. Maybe it will work as well as my #102 razor hone if not I have no real use for it.

The value is in the "Escher" label. Without it, the stone is only worth what someone will gamble.
Does yours have the saw marks on the sides like the ebay stone?
