So, while visiting relatives for thanksgiving k had a cousin come to me with a couple of sharpening stones he found in the shed when he bought his house. Asked me to take a look at them. One of them was fine but the other needed work and was grooved pretty good. (This is how he found them). I know I can work the grooves out. I've got piece of granite and some sand paper that I can lap them up.

But anyways, I'll be working on this one sometime this week. But I'm kind of stumped on what it is. One side is very dark and the other is very light, basically white.

I've seen razor stones and this reminds me of them in some ways. Almost like a coticule hone

Any thoughts on what it could be?

slate backed coti, the slate is probably unusable as a hone just gives the coti layer stability.
