     You most certainly do need lucky smoke, and a Lot Of It!!!!
That's gutsy Danny!

Will anyone cry foul if the khukuri ends up at less than say, 5" total length ?
Heavens no! At least not from me. However one of the khuk knuts here likes and demands 'em huge. :p

Only if the cho is 4 inches from the butt. :D ;)

Are you using native flint? Knapping is one of the many things I've always wanted to try. I'm sure I haven't the skill, patience or interest to become proficient at it, but I would like to try it. Where do you find your material, and how different from flint are obsidian or other minerals to work with?

I use TV screens !
its free and doesnt deplete the valuable stones on practice.
If you want to learn, there are plenty of good videos out there.
I personally recommend Brian Thompsons video "redneck knapping"
Also, there are many "knap-ins" where you can watch and learn from the pros.
I am a beginner, but I have been practicing for about two months now and I can get a usable knife or point almost every time now.
I broke a lot of pieces at first.
Its not hard, it just takes a little study and a lot of practice. five minutes a day every day for three weeks ought to get you at a level where you can make a usable point every time.
the rest is getting where you can make an attractive, usable point every time.
that is more difficult and can take a while to get, but it is a very rewarding hobby.

He did it!
He did it!
Cool!

The archeologists a thousand years from now
will talk of the 21st century lost tribe of the kukri .

she is thick and ugly, but the shape came out really well for my meager skills.
thanks for the lucky smoke.
Yvsa, I dont recommend testing this one...

I bid $1

(hey...I'm poor!)

Beautiful Danny! Who wants to tell the story of the stone-age kami?

I was thinking a song.

(To the tune of Rudolph the Raindeer)

Danny, the Stone Aged Kami.
Used to beat up 'puter screens....

Very cool! I guess one amorphous crystalline material is much like another. ;)

The Khuk looks great, Danny! Do you knap with impact or pressure? (Hey, that question makes me sound like I know something about this stuff!) :D

I'm curious what you'll select as a handle material. It should be something similarly recycled like the TV screen. How about a gutted or stabilized remote control? :p

Danny my friend you have real talent!!!! I can't even begin to imagine your skills five years from now!  :D

awesome job! Now about those glass Senban Shuriken...;):D

For stealth capability and edge, ya can't beat a glass knife. No metal detector will pick up a glass knife, nonn-magnetic, non conductive... a true Nin stealth weapon!

Do you knap with antler or copper rod?

Keith

I use a copper billet. It is 1/2" copper and looks like an 8 inch lollipop.
For cleanup I use both copper and antler pressure flakers.
I was hoping to put an antler or wood handle on it, but I think I will let Yvsa do that.
Im not very good with wood.

I really like that one, Danny. Great work!
