Recently purchased the Hapstone V7 and it came with the SiC stone set 120 - 1,000 grit.

  1. Do you rinse the slurry off the blade between each set of stones?
  2. What is the best way to store these SiC stones?
  3. I can tell there is more sharpness and refinement to get out of the blade, past the 1,000 grit.
    1. Would you replace one of the smaller grit numbers first or add a higher grit number stone?
    2. Which stone(s) are the next logical addition?

i cant speak to the Hapstone - but my lansky system had a similar set of stones. I added a 2000 grit, and strop... and that works for me

  1. Unless I am apexing, I allow the slurry to dry on the stone in between sharpening sessions.
  2. Racked away from direct sunlight in a cool, dry place within convenient reach of the Hapstone v7 :)
  3. I would look into diamond plates and full-sized waterstones. 4K to 8K is a typical range after 1K.
