Stone Storage

Does anyone here have any clever way of storing their sharpening stones for home or transport?

I mostly have DMT's and Shapton Glass stones. In the shop, they just hang out in a drawer. On the road, the Shaptons go in their original boxes and the DMT's are kept diamond side down in a stone holder.

There has got to be a better way to do this.

I use a cheap hard plastic pistol case with foam inside. i haven't bothered trying to cut out the foam, just stick my stones in it and let it ride. I have carried my kit back and forth to work for a couple years with no damage to anything.

I have too many stones for that to work for me. Getting a Pelican case w/ pick and pluck foam is the best idea I've heard so far.

Anyone store stones in water?

I don't do that. Sitting water gets nasty. I mostly use splash and go stones so it doesn't matter though.
