Hi everyone. I have a few knives, two are crkt, the first is a m-16 and then a rollock and i think im gonna get a kershaw leek combo edge for christmas. i have a whet stone but am thinking of getting a Lansky Easy Grip Tungsten Carbide sharpener. i also a a galco x-sharpener but it is a not a "stroke" sharpener it is a mini crock stick sharpener. i thought this "stroke" might get me a razor edge on my knives faster than a stone. If anyone has any info on this it would be great

ps here is the link to the sharpener sharpener

Usually, these types of sharpeners are crap.

I have hear that they won't give you the kinds of angles you want, or hold it constantly. Also steel builds up in the "V" and soon after, the sharpener will be unusable.

I haven't read too many good things about carbide V sharpeners on this forum. They are easy to use and will often give a pretty sharp edge but they are very aggressive in removing metal. I think they should be called "knife scrapers" not knife sharpeners.

i dont use my knives very much but i want a razor edge everytime i use it. also I thnk my stone removes a lot of metal and the mini X-crock stick sharpener dosent remove very much metal at all. I sort of wanted someting in between that would give me reliable results. also what kind of V sharpener would you suggest?

Spyderco sharpmaker, all the way. with little to no practice, you can get your knives shaving sharp, and over time, you'll have them as good as, if not better than factory.

also, unless you have a specific task that lends itself to serrations (ie: cutting rope, or cord, or whatever), you'll be MUCH better off going with a plain-edge Leek. i have both, and i can say with confidence that the Leek combo-edge is lacking. there is not enough plain blade to work with, and a fully plain-edge Leek is easier to sharpen. a properly sharpened PE should be able to perform pretty much any cutting task, rendering the serrated portion not very useful, unless you have some heavy-duty sawing/cutting to do.

PE or CE, the leek is a great knife. you'll be happy either way. good luck!
