Stone Washed or Polished?

I have an opportunity to pick up a new, small sebenza with a polished blade for $270. I want to use the knife as my EDC. It won't be used hard (unless something extreme should happen to me), but will be used for average chores around the house and yard.

My question is which blade finish is preferred for average use: polished or stone washed? I know that the latter is supposed to help hide scratches, but will the polished blade show scratches that much easier than the stone washed? Am I likely to regret using the sebbie after the first few scratches?

I have a Microtech LCC with a bead blasted blade and the scratches annoy me a little, but not enough to keep from using it.

So what's your opinion? Should I take the polished blade for the decent price, or shop around for a stone washed blade and probably pay a little more for it? What would you do?

i'd take the one you're looking at right now if you think it's a good price. from what I understand CRK will refinish it for you if you get scratches on it and want to send it in. I bet that if you get the polished one and think that you may want stonewash in the future that CRK will stone wash it for you if you call them up and explain. I've never owned a sebenza but from what i've read and heard they have top notch customer service.

I guess it depends on your preference for the look and what you'll use the knife for. The polished looks cool, but the stonewashed might hide wear a bit better. My small seb's stonewashed, but it's a EDC.

If scratches on your Sebenza will annoy you, definately get one with a stonewash finish. The finish is attractive and besides, you will have the pleasure of actually using a Sebenza.

My EDC is a small classic Sebenza that is stone washed and I really like it because I have cut a variety of different things with it and it still looks as good now as it did the day I got it. I like the stone washed myself.

Min'e polished, and I use the heck out of it on many different materials. There are a few surface scratches, but they are very light. Unless you're hacking ats-34 with your bg-42 I wouldn't worry about it. And like said earlier, CRK can polish it up anytime for you (or you can do it yourself)

That's a decent price for a new, small Sebenza. I think you'll find that even the polished blade will stand up to reasonable use with minimal "cosmetic" problems.

Thank-you for the replies. You've helped me make up my mind. I'm going to get the polished blade that is available to me. If using it produces more scratches than I can live with, I'll have CRK rework the finish.

Thanks again.
