I have a $5 fine arkansaw natural stone and i am thinking of getting something better :D :D :D . I do have a few conditions
-need to be able to make a knife scarry sharp (i have some experiance sharping)
-under $20
Any help would be appreciated

Smith's has some good stones that you might want to take a look at. (Smith's Abrasives)

Try using wet/dry sandpaper. I find it works very quickly. I use a sheet of 120 grit aluminum oxide for reprofiling, then 400 wet/dry, then 1500, and finally some stropping with noxon. It's very quick. I did a blade on my D2 knives in about 5 minutes with this. Stones took 20 minutes for reprofiling alone.

Norton Pike stones...
The orange side is the same stuff that comes with Randall knives...

for about ten bucks from a good internet discounter...

Mmh not so easy. I found that you need at least two different grits to get a good edge (one to true the edge, one to polish it). One stone under $20 is certainly possible, but two under $20 is pretty difficult. For the Japanese water stones, as much as I love them, you need the means to flatten them, which adds cost.

Spyderco's double stuff you can get for about $21. The #1000/#6000 King stone you can get for $27 from www.bladegallery.com.

But really I would suggest to save up for twice as long and get a Spyderco Sharpmaker. Considering, that it comes with two grits its $40 translate to about $20 per stone.

Sandpaper is also not a bad idea, but I tend to think that in the long run they are going to cost you actually more than a stone.

Go on, its Christmas
You deserve it.
Buy yourself the sharp maker.

Blame me, I said you should ;)
