Stonewash finish is changing.....

Started off innocently enough. I polished the blade on my Socom Elite auto and on my LCC/MA. I used Flitz and I also tried something called "Mothers Mag Wheel Polish". I noticed that the blades really seem to shine when I did this. I started to polish both of them at the first of the week and have continued through today. I polished each about three times a day, and am using the Mothers polish the most. This polish does not have any grit. It really looks like the blades are taking on a mirror type finish, or at least a real shiny finish. The thing that strikes me is that the "galvanized" look stonewash leaves on the blade is no longer as noticeable. the polishing has not affected the logo on the blades at all. I plan to continue this on the Elite and leave the LCC alone in order to check results. Has anyone else had this to happen?

WARNING: If you are really picky about having your blades look impeccable (i.e. NIB look), do not FLITZ too often on knives which have stamped -- as opposed to engraved -- logos on them as they will wear them off.

Okay,
Here's the latest, I have been using a product called Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish for the past several days. I have polished the blade about 3 or 4 times a day. The results are a cross between a shiny satin finish and a almost mirror finish. The galvanized look is not the same, it has taken on a frosted look. It does sparkle as you rotate it and the light hits the different grinds. I stopped polishing the LCC so I could have something to compare against. The logo, s/n, date, and 154CM are unharmed. This polish doesn't seem to have any abrasive and must be more of a chemical polish.
Bottom line is this; my Socom Elite-A is looking GOOD! I plan to continue polishing just to see where it leads. Can't post pics. but am working to solve that little problem!

My first question is "Why are you polishing so much, aren't you doing a good job the first time?" If you're plunging the knife into manure or peat moss, use a cheaper knife. If it's just paranoia, quit rubbing the knife. I read in a gun magazine once that more good barrels have been worn out by cleaning than by shooting. I also believe that Flitz DOES have a mind abrasive. Try Nevr-Dull or Tuf-Cloth.--OKG

Mothers polish is great stuff. How do you like the smell Art? I love the way the stuff smells.

The reason I am polishing the blade so much is to see what kind of finish I can achieve. I have read many a post about the "trash can" appearance of the stonewash so when I noticed that the polishing seemed to make the galvanized look appear less galvanized I begin to polish. I decided to continue because I like the results. The frosted satin mirror look ain't to bad! Thought some of you folks not keen on that stonewash might follow my lead or at least be interested.
As to the smell well give me a minute and I will go give it a sniff......( minutes pass )
Well I can't say I really like it, but I have smelled things a lot worse!!
Thats all for now.

To ArtSig1,
Upon further reflection, I think that you should work in a 'ventilated room.' I've had a problem along the same lines with lacquer thinner. I still get a buzz from my wife's nail polish remover...--OKG

I know where you are comming from!!!

I love the smell of it. I'm surprised you don't like it. I guess it's an acquired smell since I was smelling it a lot through years of machine shop.

Tim, I did polish my sebenza a little bit but I stopped because I wanted to keep the contrast you put on the edges.
