Hey guys!
I'm curious: what would you guys think of a stonewash finish on a kitchen knife?

I think stonewashes seem like a great overall finish for working knives, but I'm trying to work out whether that's something that also translates to the kitchen world... I've asked a few friends that work in kitchens, but I also wanted to get a wider opinion.

Cast your vote in the poll, or make a post and let me know what you perceive to be the pros and cons.

Also, what about acid stonewashes, or really fine 'burnished' stonewash finishes?

All thoughts welcomed!

I'm honestly not sure of any pros and cons of stonewash. Just that it covers scratches and marks better than something shiny.
That being the case I'd vote Yea for stonewash.

Shouldn't a kitchen knife have a mirror or satin like finish to prevent or reduce any microscopic build up of material?

I like a good heavy stonewash on my pocket knives, but think a satin finish looks better on most kitchen knives. For my EDC knives, the stonewash helps mask wear.

I've never really thought about it before, but I don't think I've actually seen a stonewashed kitchen knife. I don't see why it wouldn't be a good choice though.

Realistically I don't think there are many cons apart from the fact that it's an aesthetic choice that not everyone will like. The same could be said of any finish though.

A stonewash finish can actually be done so that it's very smooth, maybe not as smooth as a mirror finish, but definitely not rough in any appreciable sense.

Thanks for the input!

There's definitely not too many kitchen knives out there with it. The only ones I've really seen are the Boker 'Saga' series knives.

Thanks for the feedback guys!

Honestly I think it would look great ,it gives more character to the knife and is a different look .I'd be interested in some pictures if you do decide to do it since I've made a few kitchen knife and almost done with a 52100 personal one depending on how it looks I might do the same .

A smooth, heavy stonewash would look great on the large, thin blade of a kitchen knife. Additionally, it would certainly be unique!

Sure! I'll definitely post something, won't be until next year though. I'm trying to catch up on my backorders for Resolutes first...

For stainless, yes
For carbon, no

Good point!
