Hello,I am a new customer of Emerson knife Co. I bought a Commander BTS a week ago and feel the need for another Emo.

In checking E-Bay I see the CQC-8 in Stone but serrated. Just not a fan of serrated. I bought my BTS because the price was right. But now I want a great EDC and in Stone so it will hide the marks from my sharpener when I use it.

I want to keep it with a wave, plain and stone. Ideal item would be the CQC-16 in that configuration for me but I know they don't make it.

Is the Mini-8 so much like the Commander that I won't notice a EDC difference? I lean toward a larger blade but am willing to sacrifice for a Stone finish.

Ideas? Comments?? I would appreciate any and all of your Emerson Knife experience. Thanks,

Peace.

The Horseman (mini 8) is smaller than the regular sized Commander. The blade profile is much different and smaller. I love the Horseman and there were two in stonewashed plain edged last night on ebay. But.........those two are now gone.

I love the new stonewashed finish and own it in the mini-Commander, mini CQC-15, combat karambit, super karambit, CQC-13, mini A-100 serrated, and soon to be delivered Horseman.

For edc I think the horseman is perfect. It is definitely bigger than my cqc-7b but not as large as some of the other emersons.

The handle is great. Fits in jeans pockets just fine. Haven't ever had a Commander so not sure if much difference. For me, I only had the cqc-7b, so were quite different.

why does your sharpener scuff the blade up?

if its a clamp on ya can put masking tape on the blade to protect it ya know......

I use a Edge Select 120 3 stage sharpener and after the first year of sharpening knives the plastic where the sharpened blades slide through has been...cut away leaving the blades to fall lower into the electric spinning wheels...causing scuffs on the blades about 1/2 up from the edge.:barf:

On EVERY knife I have sharpened on it.

Maybe this Christmas Mrs.Claus will bring my Grinder/Sander from Grizzly.

As a post script I bought a CQC-13-SF Stonewashed Plain Blade. Hopefully I can wait until Christmas to sharpen it so I don't ruin yet another blade.

Very bad design by Chef's Choice.

Peace.

Ditch that POS sharpener and buy a sharpmaker, edgepro, or similar. Heck even a diamond rod works better; Especially on the chisel edge grinds Emerson uses.

Those sharpeners are pretty much the smoking crack of the knife world........... really don't use them, ever.

wow doesnt sound good, ya outta just get a norton india stone ($20 or so) and free hand it, imho thats the best way to do EKI's the india stones quickly raise a burr, i dont like any of the "systems" on EKI's, the angles arent right and though ya can lay the stones flat on say a sharpmaker the india stones still better.

i wouldnt use your sharpener on anything nice, if it was me.
