Stonewash Tumbler I built from junk laying around the shop (Video)

That's pretty clever and crafty! Nice job! Throw a blade in there and let's she what it can do!!!

Yup, I can put up to 6 of those in there and do different stuff in each. Stone wash in one, clean bolts in one with plastic media, clean small parts in one with glass beads, ETC. Your not just stuck with one type of cleaning or surfacing media.
So the large tumbler is tumbling smaller tumblers?

Yeah, as you stated can't really gather much from the vid......I'm sure they turned out nicely though

P.S. Get a band-aid on that thumb of yours :p

What an awesome idea you came up with there. But you might as well have a bikini babe in the background waving at us, could stop watching the car.

Oh that's just a old Chevelle "69 SS 396 375hp L78 4spd matching# survivor car" LOL

I did a little refining to the tumbler yesterday, I took the drill motor off and my neighbor gave me an old sewing machine, so I robbed the Motor, pulleys, belt, wiring, and foot controller off the sewing machine and put the big pulley on the main shaft "I had to make a spacer for the shaft" of the gear reduction unit and mounted the motor and foot controller. Boy what a difference, a lot smoother and quieter. I'll have a video up on Monday

Really great stuff!

What grit did you finish the blade to before tumbling and what do you use for media?
Is there a sep thread about the details behind finishing a blade this way?

Before I did the stone wash I bead blasted the blades with very fine glass bead then I put them in the container with smooth small river rock and a handfull of broken tempered glass with a couple of squirts of WD-40 and tumbled them for about a hour to a hour and a half
