I got bored last night and stonewashed the scales on my absolute favorite knife, the sebenza 25. It was getting pretty beat up in my pocket as my EDC. I really like the pocket washed look and I thought a stonewashed finish would look even better. In my opinion I was right! Im really happy with how it came out. As you can see I also polished the thumbstuds. Now I just need to find a lanyard and bead to match. Here are some pics.

Looks good. I have many CRK's but not a 25. I've been contemplating picking up 1 or 2 but, to be honest, I really prefer an inlaid handle. I don't own a single plain Sebenza. I wonder if they'll ever do one with micarta or...

That looks GREAT! I like it! Wish Mr Reeve would offer a finish like this. The normal finish shows scratches too easily. :(

I say very nice. Once you polish the thumbstuds (there's a little blue left), it'll be great.

That looks really nice. I was thinking of sending mine in to CRK and asking to have that done and some engraving also.

Thanks guys. I'm glad that everyone likes it. I half expected to get ripped for modding a knife that is already a masterpiece. I have a habit of modding just about everything I own. I guess I just like to make things fit my own personal taste. Im pretty hard on my edcs and a stonewashed finish should hold up nicely.

You did a great job, looks better than others pimp jobs I've seen.

That is a great look! I love the stone washing with the silver lugs. Looking at this thread has made me change the knife I was going to carry today. The 25 is back in my pocket.

That turned out great!
Thanks for sharing it itch us, makes me want to stonewash my 25, good thing that I have no idea how to do it ;)

Nice work! Do you mind sharing your method? I would like to put that finish on my user small

Nice Job Jensen, is that your handy work?

If so, what kind of tumbler did you use. A vibratory or a rotating one and also I would be interest in the media. Looks absolutely fantastic by the way, especially on the 25!

any pretreatment? It looks like a shinny stone wash.

Thanks guys. It actually looks even better in person. The pictures do the finish no justice. I used small river rocks and ball bearings in an empty 5 lbs tub of protein. I added wd-40 to keep things moving. I wrapped the tub with duck tape and put it in a sleeping bag in the dryer without heat for an hour. I've used this method a few other times and they come out great. I take the blade and washers out of the knife then reassemble to protect the lock face. I make sure that the rocks are small but not small enough to impact the lockface or inside the scales. I then polish the screw heads once its done so that they stand out. This method works great on blades as well but you will have to increase the time to about an hour and a half and resharpen the blade after. I'm pretty certain this voids any kind of warranty as well so make sure that you are ok with that before you try it.

Thanks Man! I have dabbled in stonewashing myself and I am still trying to improve my method a bit. Mainly the media. I will have to try some ball bearings. What size did you use haha not to be specific or anything. The river rock you used were they actually from a river or the glossy one you buy somewhere? Thanks again for sharing!

Another option is to stop by a local machine shop, if they have an industrial tumbler, which most do....try to buy a few handfulls of their ceramic media for cheap. Most of the triagular ceramic media works very well.

I used actual river rocks but nothing over 1 inch. Most rocks were around 1/2 inch and the ball bearings are 3/8 in.
