Hello.
I love the look of a stonewashed knife.
Not too many companies use a stonewashed finish, and since there's lots of talk about changing the appearence of a Millie, I thought I'd bring it up. I think a stonewashed Millie would be perfect, because it is everything the Millie is, functional and useful. What do you guys think?
Or would a stonewashed blade look better on another model. The ATR maybe?

I recall the finish on the Kershaw Vapor was stonewashed. I hated it. Fingerprints just shows up all over the place.

The Vapour is a bead blast not a stone wash.

I like the idea of a stone wash on a Millie. It might bring the cost up though.

I love the Stone-wash finish on Micortech's knives. I'd love to see it on a production Millie too.

:barf:

I think the "stonewashed" finish is cheaper than a satin finish. I think that that is why it was developed.

Please keep in mind that a polished (mirror) finish is the least vulnerable to rust. Bead blasted blades rust far more easily (due to the bigger surface) and I guess it's the same with most other ways to put a "satin look" on a blade.

And since the Military is all about functionality ... :-)

Don't get beadblasting and stonewashing confused. They're not the same.

As I understand it what Microtech and others call a "stonewashed" finish is achieved by putting the parts in a large vibratory tumbler filled with ceramic or other abrasive pellets. It is not as corrosion-inducing as blasting, because the tumbling actually impinges the surface slightly.

Bead blasting or other abrasive media blasting is done by propelling fine abrasives at the part at high velocity by the use of air pressure. Depending on the media used, it can leave a very open surface texture.

Yeah, bead blasting sucks.........
Stonewashing is great. Check out Microtech's website for pics.
If you never seen a stonewashed blade, it's really tough to appreciate. It looks like it's scratched up, but it's really smooth underneath, It's really hard to explain unless you see it, but it is so worth it.
