Recommendation? Stonewashing tips

I need some help! How can I stonewash my knife at home without getting streaks? I tried it on my knofe by putting it in a container and shaking it with medium size pieces of gravel and came out with a lot of streaks. Any tips?

For media, I am using smallish rocks/gravel from my back yard.
