im wanting to stonewash some knives but i dont have a tumbler, ive heard about using a drier, how do you stonewash a knife with your clothes drier? if anybody know i would really appreciate it...Thanks!

its really easy, theirs tons of videos on youtube.

I used river rocks I got at walmart in the aquarium section, then put them into a container with the item your stonewashing. I put a shot of wd-40 in with it and wrapped the container with towels.

I got WONDERFUL results in the drier and now that I have a tumbler I cannot figure out how to get it as good lol

Yep, like nickinfuts said it is REALLY easy. I use a gatorade bottle and some broken up tile with either a little light oil like wd-40 or tri-flow or dish or laundry soap. The soap seems to give the tile a little more bite.Hereis a pic of my resillence that I acid dipped and stone washed the blade using laundry deterdent.

My "stonewasher" was also a gatorade bottle but I could not fit some blades in there so I "upgraded" to a Clorox disinfectant wipes container. It is the one that holds 78 wipes, 1 LB 7.3 OZ.

However, I do not use the drier, I just shake it myself and still get some pretty good results however I usually acid dip my blades prior to stonewashing. If you do go the drier route then the gatorade bottle would be best. Or go to your local supermarket and look at the water bottles or juice bottles with a twist cap. That should be good enough. Hope this helps.

Good Luck!

So how long did you put it in the drier for?

...and I'm assuming it really messes up your edge?

sebaldus, your RAT1 came out nice!
Ryan, if you acid dip your blade you don't need to stonewash it as long as if you did not acid dip the blade. I would say 30 min with acid 60 min with out. If you paint the edge with fingernail polish and let it dry hard it helps protect the edge. It is still dull when it comes out but not as bad . I found if I run the blade on a steel to strighten the edge after the stonewash then all I need to do is strop it and it is back to sharp.

Also, I slip a tube sock over the bottle that I use and tie a knot. Helps to reduce the noise.
