Is it better (stronger, tougher, more effective, more reliable, etc) for the stop pin on a folder to be in the handle or on the blade?

Hinderer says on the blade as a pressed in solid thumb stud since it stops side to side movement of the blade as on his XM-18. I would say I agree as long as it is one piece not the pressed together type.

My camillus heat seams pretty stout considering it has such a short tang area in the handle.

so is this the generally accepted consensus in the knife community? or are there opposing views?

A stop pin in the handle does the same thing. The blade bumps up against the pin the entire length of the tang, preventing side to side movement. It all depends on the fit and finish of the knife. If all components are properly engineered and fitted ex...Sebenza and several customs, there will be NO play vert or lat.

I have some of each, and do not have a lot of problems with wiggly blades on any of them.
I have a Lone Wolf Harsey Tactical on me right now. Big knife, big blade, big pivot pin, big blade stop pin. There is absolutely no play in the blade on this beast whatsoever.
The Kershaw Leek I recently gave away when the kick spring broke, had noticable blade wobble, despite having the stop pins on the blade. If I tightened it up to stop the slop, the spring would not fire the blade all the way out.
Six of one, half dozen of the other.
