Anyone have any info on this new lock that Sal just patented? Maybe used on a Military 2?

Sal? Are you out there?

I might buy a Military if it didn't have a liner lock...

New lock would be awesome. Nothing wrong with the mili liner lock at all. I own 3 milis and the lock on all of them is a precision masterpiece. If I did not have confidence in this knife, I would not own 3, much less carry it daily.

Is there a reason you dislike the mili liner lock? It's not like it will fail or accidentally release. Just buy a mili and get over it. ;)

Here's the story: The knife, once upon a time, was a small somewhat crappy Mtech, they do knockoffs. 'Twas a black recurve, "mall-ninja" type blade. This was before I really discovered knives. I was 13 at the time, and I was carving some wood, just for fun. When I screwed up the carving I instinctively slammed the spine down on the block of wood.

6 stitches later, I decided that I would never again buy a liner locking knife.

Yes, I KNOW it's irrational. It is. I'm crazy. But I'm not gonna change my mind just yet.

Damn, that sucks. My first knife was similar, only a steel framelock. I was lucky enough to get a Mili before I knew the differences between locks, and I love it.

Maybe get a Para?

That makes perfect sense to me. Sorry to hear about that episode. I know the feeling though, something similar happened to me with an old Victorinox. That is also not irrational in my opinion.

I can assure you though, the Spyderco mili is built extrrdinarily well. have you handled one before? The ergonomics are outstanding. The knife just feels natural and safe. As wongKI suggests, maybe try a para? The compression lock is great too, works great on all 6 of mine. :D

Sal has posted in the past that he intends to introduce a Military 2 using the stop lock. No timetable has been given as to when this might occur, apart from whenever it is ready. Generally, when Sal shares information about upcoming models, he starts catching a lot of "are we there yet?" type threads, which has to be annoying, like driving a Greyhound bus loaded with six year olds on a field trip from L.A. to the Smithsonian. Especially since he seems to be working on fifty to sixty projects at a time.

And just to prove what a callous old geezer I am, sorry about the cut, but it wasn't the knife's fault. You threw a tantrum and got hurt. That's called life. Get used to it. Sometimes karma takes years to catch up, and sometimes it's instant. I've received some of that instant karma over the years too. :o

I know it wasn't the knife's fault...But I'd still like it not to disengage...

The Military won't disengage if you use it properly.

A cheap knife performing poorly when abused is no indication of how a well made knife will work in the hands of a responsible adult.
