Picked up these three little beauties. They're all well used but I couldn't resist.

An all metal Richards. An I*XL with no tang stamp, which I found kind of strange. And a H. BOKER & CO'S IMPROVED CUTLERY. The Boker has a well used main blade, a small pen and a file blade. If anyone has any info on the Boker I would appreciate it.

I'll give them al a light cleaning.

Some rugged old soldiers there.
oh i like that. yes indeed.
a Boker WHITTLER!!! did you hear what i said!!! A WHITTLER, very cool. how come i never find anything like these old cobbers.
i did find a Kamp King camper at the local junk store today.the owner wanted $2.00, i figured some kid would get a tremendous kick owning it, so i walked away. very sad.....
how much did you pay for the three old fellas? yes, this is very important to know how much.

all good.

"Back in the day" they really tended to literally wear a knife out before moving onto a new one didn't they. You see so many of these older examples that are sharpened down to a nub. But I'm guessing a knife was much more a tool for them, used a lot, and perhaps money strictly budgeted without as much "fun" money we enjoy now days.

I paid $5.00 CAD for each of them.

For some reason I really like old, well used knives. The character of them calls to me I suppose.

That I*XL is amazing. I have an old NON XLL Sheffield bowie C.1930's that is very dear to me. Great cutlery,

I've seen some of these at our antique stores the one with the shield inlay is that a company brand or is that a common inlay for many companies . I ask because of lately due to this forum I have been finding myself more and more interested in these traditional folders.

Greetings,

The middle one is a H. BOKER & CO'S IMPROVED CUTLERY.

I cleaned it up a little and carried it today.

So is the shield a boker thing or is it used by a few companies? I've looked up traditional folders with shield emblems and I'm not getting much info.

gonebad,
yes, the "Badge" shield was/is used by many knife makers. it is one of my favorites. their were many variations of the Badge shape as well. the "Official 1985 price guide to COLLECTOR KNIVES, by James Parker shows dozens of badge shields. Ward's used it...
when i get a little time, i'll look for some others.
