Hello everyone. Although I've been a member of BF for a little while now, I just stumbled upon this forum yesterday. I wanted to introduce myself as I intend to spend a lot of time here in the future
Towards the end of 2008, I got back into knives after a roughly 15 year hiatus. I quickly found BF and my obsession blossomed. Most of my time here has been spent in the W&SS forum, the maker's areas and the custom knife forum. Initially, I was big into knives from Fiddleback Forge and Dan Koster, all fixed blades.
To this point, I never had much interest in damascus or traditional folders. Then one day I happened upon one of Bruce Bump's WIP threads. That led me over to Knife Dogs where he has his own subforum. He has some incredible WIP threads over there including a couple of really nice slip joints.
In the time since, I have become obsessed with slip joints. As you may have noticed from my user group, I'm an aspiring knifemaker. I've had this desire for a long time, but seeing Bruce's work really pushed me over the edge. I've sold off several of my custom fixed blade knives in order to add to the shop tool fund.
My first slip joint has been a tremendous learning experience in how not to design and build a slip joint (it is an original pattern that I drew up complete with several flaws
). Nevertheless, it has been an enjoyable experience that has aided in my understanding of slip joints and those lessons will be applied from here on out.
Anyway, I'm really glad to have found this little forum and hope to show off #2 in the not-to-distant future.
Regards,
JC
