Just got a Chris Reeve Nyala! It's a great knife, looks great, feels great, cuts great.

I was going to use it on my NYLT camp-out last weekend, but apparently "National Youth Leadership Training" means "sit inside and watch PowerPoint presentations" and not "go outside," even though it was called a camp-out.

Whatever. I only use fixed-blades on camp-outs, because I normally carry a Paramilitary 2, although an Opinel #8 is starting to take more pocket time, interestingly enough.

I usually have a while between camp-outs, whether scouting-related or personal. I need to keep the Nyala in storage during the few weeks between major trips, but have only the vaguest idea of how to store it properly. The little sheet that came in the box said I shouldn't keep it in the leather sheath for extended periods. (On the note of the sheath, I need to get a Kydex sheath for my Nyala. Every time I unsheathe it, some leather is pulled out. Can anyone recommend me a maker?) How and where should I keep my Nyala when I'm not using it? Also, does getting a custom sheath and/or scales void the warranty?

Thanks!

When I store my carbon bladed fixed blades, I wrap the blade with wax paper and then put it gently in the sheath so as not to cut the wax paper. Has worked just fine and have stored blades this way for years. Just a thought.

There are many anti-corrosion products on the market.
I prefer sentry solutions tuff cloth, but everyone has there preferences.

It may not be recommended but I store all my knives in their sheaths, and have had no rust issues after applying
a proper protective product.

Someone more versed in Chris Reeve knives should chime in, but I doubt getting a custom sheath will void the warranty.
On the other hand I'm sure the tiny bits of leather coming out will stop once the knife has time to fit properly.
Also take into consideration that most kydex sheaths begin to scratch or wear the finish on your knife. My advice is to get a
product that you like, apply it properly to the knife, and keep it in its' original sheath.

If you must have a kydex sheath there are many makers out there, do some reading on them on the forum.
best of luck.

PM me and I will send you some pics of some custom kydex for the Nyala.
