Storage capable lighter

I'm in the market for a lighter that will retain it's fuel for relatively long periods of time when not in use.
I was thinking a Zippo blu, OUL, MPL, or an "Austrian" lighter. It will be used to finish paracord products.
It must be reliable and I must be able to store it for months on end with little to no use.
Thanks in advance.

The blazer pb207 is ideal for your uses:

-made in Japan since 1985
-brass valving
-3.8 gram fuel tank (that's massive by lighter standards)
- lock on fuel lever allows it to be used like a blowtorch
-precision pencil flame for soldering is ideal for paracord work

The PB207 was the first jet lighter on the commercial market, and still the best for utility.

a good lighter can cost 100$$
a bic cost 1 maybe 2

and is good for sever thousand lights

Sounds like a food torch. Hmmm, didn't think of that!
Might end up getting a standard Zippo with a Thunderbird insert, thoughts?

The thunderbird insert with regular flame is highly regarded, and is supposed to work at altitude.

However, a jet insert in a Zippo is blasphemous in my opinion. Counteracts the legendary reliability, and is just a cheap aesthetic. However, some people swear by them.

Agree about the T-Bird insert in a Zippo. Especially if you want the gas to store fro weeks at a time.

If you want a torch, take a look at the Windmill line of lighters.

As a smoker and casual collector/restorer of lighters, my advice is for you to get 2 BIC lighters and be done with it. Use one and store the second. When the first one wears out, use the second and go buy another.

With prices of decent lighters $30 and up, plus fuel, plus maintenance, it would take you many years of using a good refillable lighter hourly for it to cost less than BIC's. You do NOT want to "get into" lighters. That then encourages using them, and smoking is the next logical progression. I've seen it happen, and I know that my love of intricate fire making devices is what is keeping me smoking...

Spend your money and efforts elsewhere.

thanks.
I have no intention of collecting lighters, just getting one good one and using it about an hour and a half continuously per year for paracord is my idea.

Over a year ago, I purchased some ferro rods from Going Gear. I also ordered some small lighters in a round capsule. They will continue to fire up after months of lighter fuel in them and never opened. I am pleased. I had one that the threads did not work right and the lighter was replaced without a hitch. I would recommend them if they still have them. I was surprised and pleased.

Why not get 2 bics and 2 tea light candles? Once a year, light a candle and use it for up to 3 hours to "play with" paracord.

I have three Bruntons and a few Windmills that I hadn't used for at at least five years. None of the Windmills worked, even after refilling. Bruntons still had fuel and lit on the first try.

If you are looking for something "cool" look at the exo lighter by tisurvival.com. Expensive, but the retain fluid for a few months and are reliable.
