Storage Case for Knife Collection

Hello, I have a small collection of non EDC knives that I want to keep safe and organized in a case. I'd like a combination of protection, good case design, portability and low cost, in roughly that order of importance. Features/designs I'm considering:

Something that's airtight would be nice. I could oil everything, throw in one of those rechargeable desiccants, and make sure they "never" rust.

A lot of cases such as the Benchmade knife attache and Maxpedition dodecapod are made for storing knives, but they aren't airtight. I especially like the Benchmade's staggered layout, so the closed case is thinner.

I'm not really comfortable with vinyl windows, as plastics can outgas and possibly damage what they contain. See Benchmade's Brag Bag for an example.

So, any ideas? Does anyone use Pelican style cases with pick and pluck foam molded to fit knives? Is this all overkill? I could just throw everything into a plastic shoping bag, but I kinda want to baby my better knives. /a>

i have a couple of nylon cases which hold ~ 20 knives i got from brigade quarter masters and they have worked very well.

You might consider using one of the X-treme Travel Humidors. Some models will hold up to 50 cigars so it should easily hold at least that many knives each in it's own padded groove. It is, of course, air tight and mad very tough.

Hardigg Stormcases are better IMHO then Pelican's. Both are good cases. I find the latches on the Stormcase to be superior.

If you don't mind the weight, a Stormcase is ~$100 well spent. I get mine drop shipped on-line from Botach direct from Hardigg. They are air tight, latch securely, can be locked, and are very tuff. These things could survive a Katrina type situation if they had too.

If you are going to use desicant, get one without the foam, use the padded knife holders mentioned above, and pack the empty space with loose filler. The pull-and-pluck foam is great stuff but, you won't have any air circulation for the desicant.
