Hi all,
I have been trying to come up with a cheap way to store my knives. I wonder about a fishing takle box. Has anyone tried this? Any thoughts on this idea? Any other suggestion.

A fishing tackle box is a great idea but be sure to use a newer one that is worm proof to keep from getting any chemical reaction to different plastics-handle materials.

and much better than my 4 dollar goodwill breadbox:thumbup:
i stripped it and sanded/stained it and it holds all but my sheath knives and my cell handled slipjoints:thumbup: not much but it works

I use soft sided tool bags. Similar to the tackle box idea but softer/more flexible.

Additionally, some of my more unique customs are also stored inside a padded zippered case.

This subject came up a couple weeks ago. I can't find the thread right now but my plan is to buy one of the Planos. Line compartments as needed with foam, felt, whatever and use it for storage of knife tools and maintenance supplies as well. Tool boxes with drawers are a good choice too.

I like the 737 & the 758...

I use a box from IKEA, the kind you buy that has the different size drawers, that you build/finish yourself. All of my knives are users, so I'm not too concerned about humidity, etc. I've looked at the Plano's at Big 5, and I think they'd be perfect for these things. I even have several here for my drill bits, tools, etc.

thx - cpr

Tackle box seems like a fine way to organize loose knives.

The main drawback, it'd be very easy for someone to walk away with it. No security at all.

Secondly, divided tackle boxes are going to work best with small, loose knives. Midsize knives, knives in boxes, knives with sheaths, larger fixed blades, etc. may not fit.

Wife bought me one of these for Christmas:

and I just ordered two of these to stack beneath it (they were on sale last week, with free shipping):

I have a 737. But it is filled with fishing tackle. :D 758 looks good. I will be keeping an eye out for one of them I think.

Yeah, I got a good look at them at a store and I'm "Hooked". I have a Rubbermaid tackle box for my fishing stuff and it's great. But now, Rubbermaid has gotton away from alot of the cool stuff they used to make.

Now, back on topic - Sometimes I run across some things in the Individually owned hardware stores or places like "Big Lots" that have a lot of promise too, for not a lot of dough. But for now, I think the tackle box offers the most bang for the buck; very versatile.

I use plastic stackable containers from Target. See-thru, locking lid, comes in sizes from small to foot-locker sized.

I use small ones to hold blades & knifemaking materials and separate bigger ones to hold my Spydercos/folders, buskcraft/WSK, Scandis and chopper/machete knives.
