Storage for EdgePro stones

Perhaps this thread can be an inspiration to some of you.

For a while I have investigated how to store my EdgePro stones, and I have particularly had two considerations:
  • The stones must be stored separately form my guided sharpener, because the stones are likely to release both water wapor and particles of metal, stone or even diamond. Excactly the things I do not want to get near the sharpener.
  • The ideal storage must offer a good physical protection for the stones as these are somewhat fragile. The cost of a single stone may not be very high, but I have about 50 stones and strops, so the total cost is considderable.
Now I have put my stones in a Nanuk 910 plastic case and here is the result:

This is what the case looks like when it is closed:

The Nanuk 910 plastic case is actually quite handy as you can see from here:

As a matter of fact I keep my guided sharpener in another Nanuk 910 plastic case, but in this case I have had to remove the middle layer of protective foam.

Nice.

I use a couple of small cigar boxes and plastic trays for mine. Store them (stacked) right behind the unit which is clamped alongside my shop sink, ready to go to work at a moment's notice.

The stones need a considerable amount of air around them though a draft is not good.
I put my Edge Pro stones in this Tupperware on top of some short pieces of Norton Water stone that I use for hand sharpening / touch up of particularly small blades (mostly to debur cheep stainless. Also I use them to polish the sides of knives.
Anyway . . . the Spyderco Ultra Fine Triangle rod is in there an my Nagura stone and a couple of other things. The Aligner kit sits on top when I know the stones are dry or it is pushed off to the side when the stones are wet. I use the full set of Aligner Diamond stones on the Edge Pro (don't do it it is a PITA).

Right in the same area is this larger tub full of Shapton Pro stones (about six stones and a DMT diamond plate and couple other stones. The black neoprene mat covers them loosely to keep dust off but if the stones are wet it gets pushed off to the side as well. This is all just a few feet away from the sink in the kitchen.
Both tubs get slid under a free standing cabinet; just on the floor when not in use.

PS: Im not so sure I would want my stones in the foam (mold) and would not want them all sealed up air tight in the heavy plastic box. Looks like a perfect way to ship them across the world though if I ever needed to do that.

Your wooden boxes look great, but I can not find them on your Gritomatic web site.
Are they available?
Thank you for the feedback :) Oak boxes are in production, finishing strokes like fittings and logo engraving. I hope we will start selling in October.

Great to hear! I look forward to picking up a couple of these.

will you have them for KME and/or 8" bench stones? (please!)
Three first boxes will be for 5x, 10x and 15x of Edge Pro. After that, we will do other variants, KME for sure.

Btw, what kind of 8" bench storage do you need? For one or for multiple stones?

We will offer another storage - the roll bag for 6 Edge Pro stones. Not so sexy as wooden boxes, but more affordable. ETA Mid September.

Great to hear. I am using a plastic box with cardboard dividers for bench stones. Something nicer that would keep the stones from moving on knocking into each other would be helpful

I have most of my tools in ridged modular tool cart. I have a case in it dedicated to sharpening gear. Works out surprisingly well too.
