Should I store my folders open or closed? Right now they are all closed, but it seems like to me that opening them would release some pressure on the locking mechanisms, especially frame/liner/compression locks. Thanks.

Store them any way that you find convenient; it's a non-issue for the most part.

The only exceptions I can think of being multi-blade slipjoints without halfstops, which probably shouldn't be displayed with all of their blades half-open against the backspring(s) , and leaf and coil spring autos, which might benefit a little from open bladed long term storage.

The one thing I wouldn't do is have two blades on one spring opened half way, like some traditional patterns, but that's not for the spring as much as it's for the pins.

As for the springs themselves, it's the flexing that causes wear.

I store em closed unless they are switchblades.

i store my kershaw tremor open because of the assisted opening springs but all others closed.

As long as a spring is not over bent/ compressed so that it is permanently bent (plastic deformation) then it should not be damaged. Cycling and metal fatigue will be what degrades a spring. Storing a spring compressed should not damage it.

That makes sense. Sorta like leaving your duty magazines loaded throughout a full deployment. Never noticed any lack of performance.
