Storing away knives (Collecting)

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum and pretty new to collecting knives. I have quite a collection of Benchmade, Spyderco, and Microtech. I also have lower end knives that i just throw around, keep in the car, or use as EDC.

I'm usually collecting firearms, so knives are new to me.

I want to make sure that these knives will stay new, and was wondering how I should store them?

Should I store them opened? folded?
Should I store them with grease on the blade/pivots?
Should I use froglube? (I use it for my firearms)

Thanks guys! Hope to learn much more from this forum!

I try to rotate through my knives and use them all. So therefore I don't have anything put away for long term storage. But in an effort to keep from covering up the furniture, I keep the ones not being carried in a Spyderpac. They don't cost much and I hang it on the back of the closet door. As far as oil or lube, I usually don't. Just clean, sharpen, and put away for me.

Some sort of storage bag like a spyderpac is a good solution. Do you want to easily access them, present them or just pack them away. I prefer to have assisted knives open, because the torsion bars don't last very long in my experience. I personally hang fixed blades on the side of my shelf (Zip tie ALICE clips onto the boards. Allows for quick access to my knives and is low profile.). For folders I prefer a PALS like panel, in which I just clip the folders ( and other items with pocket clips.) Allows for a nice presentation with very quick access.
I'll try to post some pictures when I'm back home. You wouldn't want to use grease on any of your knives except on AO mechanisms. On carbon steel blades you might want to put a light coat of oil on the blades. Keep the pivots LIGHTLY oiled all the time anyways.
My condolences on living in CA.

Thanks guys.

At this point, I'm just storing them in the original boxes, in a cabinet. Therefore, everything is closed and folded.

I am planning to have them all opened and in display cases in the future. I'm just worried about them at the current state. Most of the higher end ones do have oil on them already, and won't get handled.

Just to confirm, I shouldn't use grease (frog lube) on any of the knives? I'm NOT going to use any of the knives and they are only for collecting and displaying. I will definitely keep oil on the pivots though. Is there any recommendation for type of oil?

Thanks!

Alright, so I've been thinking about how to store these. So far I have about 50 knives, with most being folders, and the rest being fixed.

I looked at different pouches like the Benchmade Brag Bag or other cheaper knife carrying cases. I was wondering if there is a case I can use that could store my knives in the opened position? This way I know they're being taken care of, and I could open it up to "brag" or take one out when needed.

Thanks!
