Storing in a sheath?

I have a 112 with a black leather sheath. When I bought the knife it had tarnished in the case at the store. So I brought it home, cleaned it up an polished it. Then I stored it in the sheath. Now it's tarnished again. Is it the sheath? How do you guys keep your knives pristine.

We don't,,,its brass and it is going to tarnish. Some polishes might delay tarnish longer than others.

Don't store it in the sheath...the leather will just tarnish it...wrap it in a soft cloth for storage...

The tanning acids used in leather are the culprits. You can neutralize them by putting water containing baking soda in the and then let them dry or use a sock or some other fabric that "breathes" to store them in.

They say any organic material, leather, cotton etc will cause tarnish and rusting. I agree not to store in sheath, wrapped in nylon would be good. I have to polish brass 2-3 times a year. Some say apply a clear laquer, which would work, but waaaaaaaay too much trouble for me.

I think if you just don't store them in a leather sheath you'll be fine.

Storing in leather always has the same result.......verdigris.
