Storing knives

I am considering storing knives (folders and fixed blades) that have had their blades, wiped with Break Free CLP, in flat plastic divided fishing tackle box like Plano or something similar and keep them in my gun safe, which is inside my house. Has anyone tried this and if so does it increase the risk of rust forming on the blades by being in the plastic boxes? Most of my knives have carbon steel blades and are not strainless.
Thank you,
Mike

i keep about 13 spyderco's in a plexie glass display box i made back in mid 90's,this sit on top of my dresser for about three years now!i just wipe there blades with a little WD40 once in a blue moon!and no problems a all, note: 5 have M4 steel, when i leave home for long times,i put most all my knifes in wooden cigar boxes and transfer to safe,as display box is to large to fit in the safe, but i would add a adsorbent packs with plastic going to safe.

I don't think the plastic box, in itself, will have anything to do with an increased likelihood of rusting (or not). They seem to be pretty inert (no outgassing or whatever), and won't present any issues themselves. But they're not airtight, and therefore will be susceptible to whatever ambient conditions exist in the house. If it gets very humid indoors, maybe above 50-60% or more, then I'd be concerned.

I used to live in fairly humid (sometimes very humid) central Texas. All of my knives were stored inside; but I also stored them in clean & dry Zip-Loc bags. Stored that way, I never had any issues with rust on any of them, and I'd highly recommend storing knives in that manner. Outdoor humidity levels were often anywhere between 50% (mid/late day) and 100% (on rainy, foggy, misty mornings in particular). Inside, during the muggier & warmer seasons, the A/C in the house kept the air at least a bit drier, if not much more so.

I use plastic storage boxes from Harbor Freight.

I got a bunch of 1gr silica dessicant packs off fleabay and use several in each box just in case.

Thank you for your replies, I feel much better about storing my knives now. I am going to add packs of silica gel per the suggestion.

Once again, Thank you
Mike

I have a few guns and knives treated once with breakfree clp, then stored in the safe without any other maintenance. All of them were broke completely down, metal parts soaked in breakfree for an hour, wiped completely dry (to the look and feel) with a clean dry cotton cloth, then reassembled.
Some have been there for over 15 years. I take them out and inspect every few years and there's been no change to any of them since first put away.
None of them are stored in any type of plastic, but can't imagine it would make any difference.
