Hey BF,

I'm curious on your thoughts on if speedsafe/assisted knives should be stored in the opened position to reduce tension on the lockbar/spring? Practically speaking does it make much of a difference in the long run?

I would say no, they don't need to be stored open, as the torsion bar is not under tension when closed.

I just now pulled my leek out and gave it a test. After seven years, it seems to operate just fine.

Ask Kershaw for some tension bars for your models. Then if they break later cause they often do, you can just replace it.

A spring wears when cycled, not when sitting in one position (unless its held beyond its tolerances of course) so like with firearm magazines, you are fine to store it how you want to, its the opening and closing that will cause wear on it.
