Anybody have a good system for storing waterstones to keep them safe from damage? Right now I keep mine in their own individual zippered nylon bag (originally designed to store nails I think) and kept in a plastic tupperware box. Anybody have a better method? I thought about getting a Pelican case, but thats probably more than I want to spend...

Plastic container where the wife and grand kids can't get at them. Unless you a traveling with them I don't see why you would need more.

I keep mine in the original box inside my kitchen knife drawer on their side in between my two knife blocks. Works great. But you probably don't have the same drawer or blocks I have, lol. Any kitchen drawer that you don't get into often. Maybe on a non slip pad so they don't bump together and break/chip. How many do you have to store?

I just have three of them. I think I might wrap them in that rubber non-slip stuff you put on the bottom of your cabinets for added protection.

To start, you never want to store them in a sealed box. It will hold the moisture in the stone and cause conditions for mold.

Waterstones should be placed on a rack and kept from direct sunlight while they dry in a room temperature environment.

Some stones can be kept in water permanently as I do with most of my stones though changing out the water in the storage tub is needed weekly. I also have a heating mat under my container to keep the water temp above 40 degrees F, cold temps can cause cracking.

Unless you store your stones in a car the risk for damage is very low.
