How does every one do it. Right now I have mine in a knife roll. I have a Doskill hard sided pistol case that I no longer use. Do you think this would be a good knife storage case?

The desk-top carries a lot:D Not to mention inside:eek:

Couple of cabinets, but I have recently bought a couple of very handy knife rolls .They store 20, are made of nylon on the outside with individual 'fleece' linings that can stow a 5" knife or 2 small ones end to end. They keep the knives secure, don't bang around etc. Not expensive either, excellent for travel.

My main problem is extreme dry conditions which can cause shrinking, the rolls do I suppose keep the knives out of atmosphere changes.

Do you mean a Doskocil gun case? They're good for storage, but make sure you have a fleece or soft cloth that the knives can sit on; try to make sure the knives don't come into direct contact with the foam when in storage. When I stored my knives in my old pistol case, the oils for lubricating & dyes in the scales would sometimes react with the foam. The nice thing about those cases is that once the knives have been in there for a short time, they 'indent' the foam, and they sit in place pretty well when the case is open.

I keep my regular collection in a small 'build-it-yourself' three-drawer cabinet from IKEA. Works great, and I can finish it exactly the way I want it. My heirlooms are in an old mahogany cigar box.

thx - cpr

I have found Sackups to be the best. They are inexpensive, roll up nice and protect your knives while allowing them to breath.

Okay, I have to admit to an old wooden cigar box on top of the dresser.:o

For the family heirlooms, its a wrap of wax paper with photos of the person, in small carboard boxes put away up in the closet.a zip lock bag.

old wooden cigar box on top of the dresser for me too. They keep well and have a nice smell.

I keep all of my knives in just two boxes. My SAKs (since I have too many of them hehe) occupy an old Wells Fargo check box. I find the 85mm Wengers fit perfectly laying width-wise in the box, with Vic's 91mm knives occupying a lengthwise portion. The remainder of my knives not currently in my EDC rotation are in a metal tin that came with a Schrade 94OT (Chinese variety. I was a little less than pleased with this acquisition). The box holds everything from my a Wenger Ranger and Buck 110 all the way down to a Buck medium trapper well enough. I think there's about 15 or so knives in that one. My one heirloom knife, a SAK Tinker my grandfather gave me when I was 13, sits apart, in a drawstring pouch that came with a Benchmade mini-Grip. Good little pouch.

The knives that I do carry around sit in the top drawer of my dresser when I'm home, although I do bring them with me when traveling on business. One of the good things about traveling in the eastern part of the country is the availability of stores that carry knives. Just got me a yeller CV Peanut at a little shop in Tucker, GA. It's a nice little thing that's definitely going to vie for pocket time with my GEC Barlow :)

I have 2 knife rolls I bought from Smokey Mountain. They hold about 60 small folders each and they were pretty inexpensive.

In clear tackle trays with thin sheet cork liner in bottoms, stacked in gun safe.

WARNING - The 'pebbly' latex shelf liner designed for kitchen drawers and even found in new mechanic tool boxes, will bleed into some scales and leave a stain of the pattern.

I use knife cases like this one for my slipjoints and thiner SAK's.

For my fixed blades I gutted a brief case and put foam from a old camera case I use to use. Works well. For my larger sak's I have what looks like a small jewlery box. I plan on getting a fishing tackle box for all my SAK's when I find one I like at a good price.

I keep some in small knife cases (A couple lg. Custom Bill's cases, too) & others are usually in the boxes they came in.

Most of the ones in boxes are in a special box, but the users are in boxes in the open (Some on a shelf in my closet). Other than what's on a shelf, the others are on the safe.

The hard gun cases aren't a bad idea, but I agree the knive's metal shouldn't be in contact with the foam, as it'll probably soak up anything that you have to coat the metal on the knives.

Good thread.
