Anyone purchase storm windows recently? I'm having a heckuva time finding anything locally and either need to order or make a trip to The City.

Of the three local glass shops, one closed, one never returns calls or provides requested quotes, and one doesn't do storm windows.

The original storm windows from the home were wood frame, the type you hang up and take down seasonally to replace with screens. These originals are long-gone. The existing storm windows are the junky aluminum type, probably from the 1960s. These are loose, missing panes, ugly, and broken.

What I'm looking for is something to attach to the inner frame like the current windows, protect the original wood interior sash and windows, and provide a good weatherproofing. Definitely don't want plastic - would like to find metal frames with an enamel finish.

So what do you guys have? Anyone recommend a certain brand?

I worked for the Menards Co. for 5 years and we sold the aluminum storms with the enamel coating. Sold tons of them. I am sure you should be able to find them at a Lowes or Home Depot as well. The ones I sold were Larson brand, never really had any complaints about them. Stores will usually carry standard sizes in their basic line and will also be able to special order different sizes and styles.
