I'll start

When i was a kid, i found a box of cool stuff in the rafters of a shed behind my dads house. One of the coolest things in the box was an old straight razor. It was pretty badly discolored, but it was one COOL toy. it had some really neat yellowish white grips with carving on them, and some gold writing on the blade.

At the time, I didn't know a dang thing about knives, and this was a neat find. I'm sure you can imagine some of the stuff i did with it. I chopped rope, cut hay bale twine, and even decapitated a chicken. (Cooked it of course)

I wasn't quite satisfied with the way that the blade would go back past 180 degrees (here comes the stupid part) so i took a screwdriver, and drove a screw into the handle as a stop to prevent it from opening fully. From my perspective, this was a great success, and it worked GREAT until about a month later when the handle cracked in half at the screw...

Looking back, i know that you can't really drill holes with screw in ivory and expect it to survive... but with it broke, i lost interest. Not a clue where it went, but i'm pretty sure that i managed to break and lose an ivory handled straight razor that could have been well over 100 years old... dumbass kid

A couple years ago i was working pouring a huge concrete floor, I had my Gerber Gator and was using it to cut the sheeting we were using to cover pipe openings and such. Well at the end of the day I was putting my tools in my car annnnd my knife was missing, best i can tell my knife is under 9 inches of concrete.

I was pretty dissatisfied with the uneven grinds on my sabre ground delica, so I decided to fix it with my new waterstones. Not only did this take forever (even with the 220) but it ended up looking like crap. In the end I finished both sides on a 4000 grit stone and then convexed the edge. I have beaten the hell out of this knife and tried (not reaally hard though) to break it. This is my go-to beater knife now. It seems to handle anything I could ask of it and packs alot of strength into 2.5 oz. If I ever get another sabre ground delica, I wont be evening out the grinds but I would definitely convex it. I just love this type of edge.

Good thing it was only a Gerber.

The dumbest thing I've ever done was underestimate the power of an auto when I opened it. It shot out of my hands and sliced one of the joints on my left ring finger down to the bone. Needed four stitches and had a hell of a time getting the bleeding to stop.

The two dumbest things I have ever done to knives can be divided into two catagories:

1. Throw them: For some reason, I went thru a phase where every knife was a "thrower". Must of been something to do with all the late 80's to early 90's action movies.

2. Lend them out: Yep, never seen quite a bit of them back. Not intentionally though, they just get left behind after whomever borrowed it, cut whatever and moved on. Most times, that means we already sllung the vehicles and were on the PAX lift, meanign my knife (left on a load) was somewhere between the PZ and LZ. For this reason, I still refuse to buy another Spyderco (I lost 4 this way over a year at Ft. Drum).

Did this doing something stupid when i was drunk about 5 days ago. It doesn't look that bad but i've lost a lot of feeling in the finger. I'm hoping its just from the swelling but i'm worried i cut a nerve or something. guess time will tell. Oh and it took longer than you'd believe to get it to stop bleeding. I really should have gotten stitches but i was busy at the time.

I've had my nerves cut in the first two fingers on my right hand...lemme tell you if the nerves are cut there is likely to be damage to the tendon too. I hope you went to the doc, bro. I had to have about 11k in surgery to reattach my nerves and tendons, and I still can't bend the very last digit on my index finger. Also there is a time constraint on how long they have to repair the damage to such things, otherwise you're basically screwed.

I cut the nerve on the right side of the middle finger of my left hand. It's a C shaped cut about 2 inches long that went all the way to the bone

the cut starts just behind the first joint on the side of my finger and goes all the way up to the fingernail. It actually slightly cut the nail...

and all this carnage, along with the total loss of feeling that i suffered on that side of my finger for 8 years, and the still decreased felling to this day

was caused by a cat food can lid

Dumbest thing I ever did with a knife was give one to my stupid friend.
It was a lightning OTF (not the most expensive knife, fortunately) and he proceded to break it in less than a week. what a dumbass.

Some of these are accidents.

I've never done anything other than cut myself. If I did do something stupid, I wouldn't post it here tho.

Dumbest thing I ever did with a knife was lend it to someone else to use.
Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Thanks for the concern guys but i think i'll be alright. I still have feeling in the finger and though it's a little stiff i can bend it almost as well as i should be able to. Maybe i just nicked a nerve/tendon or maybe i had the bandage too tight. I'll give it 24 hours and see where it's at. I guess i don't have much of an excuse for not going to the doctor since i have health insurance (f&*k yeah go Obama!).

Knife regrets: I had this little buck fixed blade, nothing special about it but i used the hell out of it on an epic month long sea kayaking trip (longest time i've ever been in the wilderness). 3 days before i got back I lent it to some inner city idgit from new jersey and he broke the tip off it. Don't know what he was doing but it wasn't cutting. The knife survived everything including some serious sea water exposure only to be broken by someone else. ughhh.

I was wrapping a my Izula wrong- from butt to blade. So guess which direction I was pulling to tighten? Now that you have imagined this horrible idea, place my middle finger where the blade comes out of the sheath.

6 stitches and nerve damage.

This makes me cringe. How much was chipped off?

About 4mm. The whole blade tip plus some. BM fixed her up. Never again. I love when she asks me if I have a knife now. My response is always "no, but let me get you one." With a Sebenza clipped to my pocket.

dumbest things..well..as a kid, I confidently decided that I would attempt my first ever sharpening by taking the cool knife that Ginger Barnes gave me for a 6th grade Christmas present and use an electric grinder to touch it up..the sparks and the scratches of those brief seconds..and the first great epiphany of my life were all intertwined..Looking down at the blade..I realized I would really have to guard against the tendency to be a complete idiot for the rest of my life..

The other one was getting the bright idea that I could remove serrations off a partially serrated knife, and make it look "amazing".. Wow, just want to thank the OP for reminding of how many great ideas I have had :barf:,and that even with the blessing of an early epiphany..my idiotic tendencies were just waiting to re-surface at any moment..think I'll go modify my AD..think it needs a swedge.

I used an older Emerson CQC-7 to hammer a tap into a maple tree - dumb!

It turned out ok though - I had custom scales made for it and now it is a spectacular looker.

best

Done with a knife? I have a few minor scars from being dumb.

Done to a knife? Cutting jimping notches on the spine of a new, original Camillus-made Becker Necker. Camillus went belly-up a few months later and the knife (if it had been original) would have been worth 2-3 times what I paid for it. Not only that, I discovered I really didn't use or like the jimping much anyway.
