STR Wave Mod: A Short Review

Regardless of whether or not you find any utility in the Emerson & Spyderco wave feature, one has to admit that it's extraordinarily innovative.

Personally, I'm a fan. Big time. My Spydies that aren't waved have the ghetto "zip-tie" mod and I've added a C-clip to a Benchmade 940 to simulate the wave feature. Additionally, I also have a couple of factory-waved Enduras and Delicas.

The primary headache I (and most others) have encountered w/ the ghetto and factory waved knives is frayed pocket seams. Besides the obvious downside, this has caused my waved knives to occasionally get "hung-up" on a strand of denim, so I've got to struggle to get the knife out of my front pocket -- I can forget the wave feature then! In a speed-deployment contest, any one of my grandfather's Case slipjoints, would win out!

Not so (so far so good, at least!) w/ STR's mod. Pocket wear is much reduced and the less severe "hook" is just as reliable and less likely to snag. A win-win.

Plus -- workmanship is top-notch, turnaround was fast, and communication was great. By far, my favorite waved knife. If you like the feature, I can't recommend Steve highly enough.
