O.K., I checked the search forums but have a question.

What is the rarity of a straight handled Battle Mistress with a false edge? (clip point)?

Were there a certain number made with that feature or??????

I recently aquired a "berry nice" SH-BM with a false edge and it is the first I have seen (come-on I live on Maui!) and I really like it.

It is an older version with the slotted screw handles and in VERY good condition.

Just wondering (if anyone knew) what the history was behind the "clip point" Battle Mistress? Gads! Its seems like they should've all been made this way!

Mahalo!

Thomas, you sly old devil. Sounds like you did good on the BM. That could very well be one of the first 300 BMs made. They hardly ever come up for sale, just ask Dark Nemesis!

Quite a find for someone way out there in that horrible place to live you that you do!!

Congratulations.

Marc

Hoss,
Look at the top of the false sharpend clip, is it flat or does it come all the way up to the top and is just not sharp.

The first Three hundred BM have the edges knocked off at about a 45 degree angle, flat on top

Out of the first thousand or so Battle Mistresses, there are approximately fifty that are false sharpened. The majority of these, somewhere between 40-45 are shiny, or satin finished, and a few
(5-10) are the flat black. Of the flat black, I have seen one. I sold it, and then asked Jerry questions about it (Dumb move).

Hoss, papathud beat me to this thread, and summarized it up very well. I've got all of the clip point variations now that papathud mentioned. Yes, you have definately found a great Mistress, rare is starting to become an understatement. This time last year, they popped up every so often, but now they have just about vanished.

If you've got a chance to take a pic, its always nice to see another Mistress and we can let you know what you've got. Oh how I love the Mistresses :D

Congrats on a great find!!! :)

Hey wait a minute, I just remembered, that means you have atleast two BM's because of the one from my collection :) Good lord, I'm gonna have to keep my eye on you :D

Thanks for the info all!

O.K. looked at the top, it is "knocked off" and flat on the top, does not come to a sharp point.

I'll take some pics this week and post them when NUMBER 4 comes in!;)

Better believe it Dark Nemesis, blame it all on good 'ol "1whobuys", got my first Mistress from him as a partial trade and it was "Holy Sh*t Batman! My Batbelt ain't full yet!"

First Mistress was one that was "used" (Ha ha, ha hahha! Hardly shows it! I have seen the pictures of used Busse knives. Berry funny.

Second came and went to a good friend.

Third, the "newer" one from Dark Nemesis.

Fourth, this one with the clip.

And fifth: We'll see, but another "oldie"

Thats besides the BM-E, the A-2 Mean Street, SH-Steel Heart II and a ZT Steel Heart. I have sold a good majority of my "customs" for this "Busse bug", no regrets! But, like Dark Nemesis, I have a very particular fondness for sh-Mistresses.

Told my wife "This is it, unless another Mistress comes up.";)

Pics soon, I promise!

Thanks for the info Andre, that's interesting. You're like a Busse encyclopedia :D !

Now, we need to see those pics :D !

Alright, pics tomorrow (gotta wait until the boss is'nt looking then use the digital camera) and will post a new thread but..........

Got #4 sh-Battle Mistress, great knife but.......it adds to my confusion! It has the top "kinda" knocked off in the way of a clip.

The knife I originaly asked about looks like a very obvious "non-sharpened" clip point. If you look at it you can tell because it is cut away like a very obvious non-sharpened clip. It is a dramatic clip whereas the other knife has a very slight taper that you have to look carfeully at to see that it is tapered at all. But both are different than the other Mistress's that I have.

Tomorrow I will post pics of both knives trying to show that clips, on the first one I asked about it will be very obvious that it has a clip, the second you have to look closely to see that it has a taper at all. Just giving a heads up, pics will help.

Also, (does it matter) the knife with the dramatic clip is about 1/2" shorter than every one of the other Battle Mistress knives that I have.

I'll tell ya, four Battle Mistress knives being lugged around is like a spare tire in your hand. (You can't see it but I'm smiling!:D )

Aloha!

Thomas

Hoss,
It will be interesting to see those pics. It is always nice seeing what others have, especially when they are rare ones like yours :D

Wow, that's interesting. I'm looking forward to the pics :D .

About the length difference, while I'm not sure, perhaps the clipped BM's (first 300) were made a tad shorter than the rest  ?

DN or papathud will probably know :D .

Andrew, yes my false edge versions are just a hair shorter than my later dated Mistresses. However the even more noticable trait to me is the way in which the blade curves up at the tip. My older Mistresses, which include the false edge configurations have a slightly steeper sweep up to the point than the later dated models which are a little bit more gradual. Not sure if that makes too much sense in words, but pics make it clear as day. Will see if I can get some posted tomorrow for you.

Actually while I'm thinking about it, the false edge versions also have a slightly wider belly at the base of the blade. Not so much to have a huge measurable difference, but more than enough to catch the eye when visually comparing Mistresses.

Papathud, I think we talked about this one night and you had noticed the same thing thing about the slightly steeper sweep and wider belly on the false edge versions?

On some, Not all.
I have a nice pointy one right here in my hand.
D.N call me, are you at your place??
