Straight Handled Steel Heart

I've got an older straight handled steel heart (1/4") with slotted bolts and Eagle sheath. The exposed steel on the top and bottom of the handle area is polished. I was thinking the slotted bolts meant it was A2, could it be INFI?

Has seen some previous use. There is one place in the edge that looks like it was rolled or flattened, but looks like some one fixed it and did an excellent job. I'm not sure if they sharpened the entire knife or not. There is a small (1/8-1/4") area on top of the spine shows some rust/patina. Can anyone one give me a ballpark on what it's worth?

I've tried to use the search function, but I'm not having any luck. Any help would be appreciated.

Try using some cold blueing on the sharpened "V" edge, if it is absorbed and turns black, it is A2, if it beads and does not discolor the edge, probably some type of INFI. I bought one of the cold blueing pens that look like a felt marker and it is pretty handy to use for this test and touching up your hand gun.

As far as a value, last year I would say $1000 -$1100 or so, but at the present time $800 - $900.

I'd like $100 too. I'll add $700 to it and buy that SHBM. :p

I knew there had to be a trick to it:) Thanks for the info and the ballpark figure.

A SHSHII with slotted bolts could be either A2 or INFI.

I recently purchased one of the cold blueing felt tip pens at a local gun show and tested my 3 Busse knives. The results of the test show my BBSHSH,SHBA and SHMS to all be INFI. I am new in the Busse World and I am wondering,, can I consider this test conclusive? Any info appreciated!

This is merely anecdotal, but yes ... I'd say you're safe to make this assumption.

I'm told Boss Hog can tell by examining the spark shower when grinding the knife. BUT ... I just don't have that level of skill.

Of course, we could take some metal shavings and subject it to one of a number of sensitive spectroscopic techniques .... :D;)

I would think that the knife would need to be sent in to Busse for a definitive determination regarding whether it is INFI or not. IMHO, for $20 or $30, if you really have to know, then that is a small price to pay. And if you are trying to sell it (I think I saw it in the FS forum), you might get marginally more in it is indeed INFI.

BUT, from what I have seen, there are many more HOGs that don't care whether it's INFI than there are those who do. In other words, if it is INFI and you decide to ask more for it, I would think that you will significantly reduce the pool of folks who might be looking to buy it.

Many long-time HOGs may have an SHSH2 already, or have at least handled one and know whether they want one or not. I have one and do not care whether mine is INFI. It is a GREAT knife, and one I plan on keeping (and using) for the long term. And yes, one is enough; it is that good.

,,,,,,,, and then send the results back with an armor piercing e-mail ?????????
