Straight Kerambit?

After a few days of admiring my Karambit and showing it to others, a question has come up, why isn't this available in a straight version? Keep the handle and ring the same size (straighten it some) straighten the blade and keep the re-curve edge and the cresent cho, and the fullers. I think it would make a great belt knife, just look at all the re-curve style blades that have come on the market recently.
OK everyone climb on, whats your take on the idea?

sogguy,
Great minds seem to think alike...I had some thought on this one, lookiing at my Kerambit yesterday..

errr, I should admit that I was thinking how much easier a sheath would be to make if the blade didnt have as much arc to it, but with the same end result as you suggested:D

yea I am trying to figure out a way to lessen it's profile a bit on the belt...

BTW...what handle material did ya get???

I would like one with a sharper point, and double edged. A more traditional Kerambit, but with the quality and beauty that is an HI peice.

I got a highly figured Chandan, it is really nice.

CRKT makes a type of skinner with the finger ring that fits the description you gave, though smaller than a HI but then Hi are some of the largest ones offered.

Dan K could build you one of those we have been going back an forth on a fighter design that is not too far off what you describe.

Mine is in Neem!!!!!!:D

Sogguy...had an idea

Give Dan a buzz as Azis suggested...Great work at good prices

Idea is this..

Take the look of the Penknife and take a little bit of belly out...Shrink it down to a 3" blade...Add a little bit of arc to it and ya got a straight Kerambit..

What ya think?

Dave, thats an idea, but you loose the handle configuration and and fullers, plus I really like the "clip point" profile. I went back and looked at the DOTD 3/27 and the R-4 & 5 both have the re-curve type blade with different handles and other things. I don't know, just looking at the Karambit it seemed like making it straight would make a nice knife.

Have you thought of a crossdraw or strongside sheath, running parallel with the belt, having half of the back open w/ a thunb break strap holding it all in? That has been a dream of mine for my K-bit. Strong side would be the best as it would place the k-bit properly for a good reverse grip grab.

That is one of the ideas that I was thinking of...Care to draw it out???

A simple beltslot sheath is the other...

GRRRR!!! I hate design!

lmaooo!!!

Been on the waiting list for a LONG time Andy...I have another that I am waiting on in American Antler to complete my display knives...Of course then I have to get a display case to show them off...

then I need to get a beater to play with...

UGH I gotta raise my prices some!:(

To be frank, if it was straight it would no longer be a kerambit. It's like asking for a straight khukuri.

That's true, but how do you ask for a CHANGE without using the name of the original item?

Sogguy,
I would suggest calling it a Kerambit Hybrid for now...Slightly giving it less arc doesnt make it totally a new design, but a different name would help somewhat...

having Dan do the design to your specs would be sweet OR e-mailing Yangdu about the design might work if the Kamis have time for it...Then you could post a poll about a name for the design...would be fun

Errr...In the review section anyway:rolleyes:

By the way look at Dan's site he has apic of karambit sheath he made for me. It works great I can wear it in several positions but I like behind the back which is the primary position I also like forward draw with the ring on the little finger and the blade forward buts that just my preference.

Or you could wait a while until the Azis (serpents fang) fighter comes out...when ever Dan and I get around to wraping up the design. ;)

Azis,
I looked at that one....Looks sweet

I can never just leave well enough alone ya know???:D

I am thinking of running it at a slightly deeper angle than the one Dan built for you...Pretty sure I can do it, with 2 slots (kinda like a pancake holster) but I am still noodling it...A crossdraw speed sheath is an interesting idea as well...

The crossdraw is the one that has my attention right now..

Be a little careful with depending on a cross draw. If the Karambit is for self defense the cross draw is going to be something you will want to stop using. It is ok for a sword but not the sizes in a knife range.
