So I stopped by a local pawn shop and found a few gems ;) I was browsing through their old knives and stumbled across two old straight razors. one I have identified as an IXL, and the other is a Winchester, but I know nothing about SR's and want to know the age, model, and if it's allowed the worth of these two beauties, they are pretty beat up but when I saw the IXL had an original box I had to grab it, could anybody help a feller out with at least the age of these two, and the materials they are made with i.e. silver pins? ivory? horn?

Thanks a bunch here are the closeups I took just today:

Just because of the condition of the blades I would say these are not worth anything, but I am no expert by a long shot.

I thought about regrinding them, but I'm hoping the "untouched" condition they are in would be worth something to collectors.

I would be willing to bet that the Winchester would have value to a "brand collector." But not likely to a SR collector. They are both beyond serviceable life and/or repair. The pins are likely nickel silver. The scales however would look fantastic on another blade, I like those winchester ones.

Hmmm well I'll have to ask around about any brand collectors looking for them then, the IXL is an oldie it seems, I would like to know the age of that one mostly, I know a few people looking for IXL blades. The Winchester's scales are actually melted on one side, I'm thinking a skilled craftsman can repair that, I could even try my hand in repairing these two, but I am curious how they would shave with a reground edge.

I have seen a few people regrind a SR back a bit to give it thicker edge and use it as a friction folder pocket knife. It probably could be gotten to shaving sharp, but not razor sharp. The scales on the I-XL look like horn.

That's what I had in mind, it would be kinda neat for a user knife ;) Haha pull out a SR to cut a piece of rope or what not, horn huh? It looks very reminiscent of ebony wood, but underneath is has the horn layers. Thanks!
